Be the Dark Raider exiled by "The Order", embark on the path of vengeance, and uncover the darkest secrets of Wulin!
Phantom Blade Zero is the spiritual rebirth of the original Rainblood. but it’s massively larger and richer, changing engine from RPG maker to Unreal Engine 5, but has never changed in its core.
Phantom World, the universe that the game is set in, is a universe where many kinds of powers converge. You’ll find Chinese Kungfu, intricate machines reminiscent of steampunk, arts of the occult, and intriguing stuff that doesn’t quite fit into any of these categories.
In Phantom Blade Zero, you’re Soul, an elite assassin serving an elusive but powerful organization known simply as “The Order”. He was framed for the murder of The Order’s patriarch and gravely injured in the manhunt that ensued. A mystic healer managed to save him from death, but makeshift cure only lasts for 66 days. He must find out the mastermind behind it all before his time runs out, against powerful foes and inhuman monstrosities.
Phantom Blade Zero unfolds in a semi-open world. We are aware that “open world” is the buzz word in these days, but with limited resources, we would rather present you multiple maps of reasonable size, and handcrafted and populated with diverse activities, instead of one huge continuity full of repurposed/reused assets.
Developer S-Game that Phantom Blade Zero is now available for pre-order, and are also sharing a deeper look at the game in a special gameplay deep dive State of Play broadcast, streaming August 17 at 7:00pm PT / 10:00pm ET | August 18 at 3:00am BST / 10:00am Beijing Time / 11:00am JST.
Today’s new extended trailer isn’t enough to cover our intricate gameplay systems, dynamic combat, and the dark wuxia land we call the Phantom World. That’s why our upcoming State of Play takes a much closer look at what you can expect from Phantom Blade Zero.
You may have recognized a familiar face at the end of the pre-order trailer. Donnie Yen has served as creative consultant for Phantom Blade Zero since 2023, bringing his martial arts and action filmmaking expertise to our combat design to help deliver an authentic kung fu experience. He also takes on the role of Facial & Motion Capture Actor for Mó Yuan, our protagonist Soul’s father.
What you saw in the pre-order trailer is only the beginning. Battling enemies atop a speeding wagon and crossing blades with former comrades like The Hunt are just the opening moments of Soul’s journey. The Phantom Blade Zero gameplay deep dive will introduce never-before-seen characters central to our story while showing just how expressive players can be with their individual builds. We’re looking forward to finally sharing more of what we’ve been working on.
Pre-ordering Phantom Blade Zero grants early unlock of the Treasure Basin accessory and the Legacy outfit. Both items can also be obtained through in-game progression.
The dark/bleak visual style that you’ll see a lot in the game is a deliberate decision. A bleak world makes characters with hearts of gold really stand out. Plus, it serves as a reminder to never let your guard down. There are plenty of powerful beings that want to see you dead. They’re challenging but abundantly rewarding, in the form of weapons, armor, artifacts, skills, among other ways to customize or progress your character.
Phantom Blade Zero is coming to PS5 and PC (Steam / Epic Games Store) on October 29, 2026.
