the EBGames website, Namco's action game Dead to Rights is making its debut on a handheld with Dead to Rights: Reckoning. While it has not been offiically announced, the PSP version of the game is scheduled to ship May 1st and is priced at $39.99. Whether this will be an all-new product or a port from either one of the two previous titles is not known at this point. The Dead to Rigths titles are third-person, story-driven action-noir games delivering diverse gameplay mechanics, cinematic style and Hong Kong-inspired action. While Dead to Rights II pre-dates the original title, both games are set in Grant City's underworld where Jack Slate and his deadly K9 partner Shadow battle with various criminal organizations.

Gamespot reported earlier that the PC port of Namco's Dead To Rights has a sever bug that seemed to render the game unplayable due to not being able to pass the opening level/map. Hip Games has been made aware of this and as it turns out this "bug" only occurs with ATI Radeon 9700 cards, so most people should still be able to enjoy the game. Nonetheless Hip Games informed Gamespot that a patch is in the works and should be available SOON.

Namco today announced Dead to Rights II: Hell to Pay, the sequel to its third person console action game (which will also be available soon on PC). The story-driven action in Dead to Rights 2 promises "intense new gameplay mechanics including a lightning-paced 360-degree brawling system, vicious melee weapon battles and an innovative new spherical slow motion diving system." Dead to Rights 2 is currently scheduled for release on PlayStation 2 and Xbox in fall 2004.

Our friends over at
Homelan dug up some info from the newest print issue of Game Informer magazine which reveals and gives the first details for Dead To Rights II. While the PC version of Dead To Rights is expected later this year, this new article already sports a number of screenshots from the sequel, details about the new graphics engine, gameplay improvements (including better gunplay, melee combat with swords and improved hand-to-hand combat). Dead To Rights II will feature new gameplay modes like Arcade mode (run through the game and collect points for special moves) and Challenge mode (play special levels to accomplish a specific goal or achievement). The game will be released for the PS2/Xbox in fall 2004, no GameCube or PC version has been announced yet.

Perhaps recognising a greater global strategy is now in order, Namco has pledged to focus on overseas markets in the coming months - that means Europe and the US. 18 titles are expected for European release this year, doubling last year's total of nine releases. But what games can we expect from the venerable developer? Hit after cash-seeking hit, by the sounds of things. New games in the Soul Calibur and Ridge Racer series will appear more regularly, with Namco aiming to release new episodes every two years. Specifically pencilled in for 2004 are new games in the Tekken and Ace Combat series, as well as a sequel to Dead To Rights.
