a roof was on fire! Just a transformer fire, it seems ....

Yesterday was an awesome day with great weather. We visited the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and a few other spots in Battery Park. There was some crazy security going on, though. I lost track of all the scanners we had to go through to get to the places we wanted to see.
Being the good tourists that we were, we snapped a lot of photos and topped off the day with dinner and beers with some friends.
Earlier this week, it had been raining cats and dogs, so the U.S. Open women's finale has been postponed until tomorrow, which leaves our day wide open. We're going to introduce some friends to dim sum and then maybe visit the World Trade Center site and Central Park.

Day one of our New York city trip has passed, and it started off with quite a scare.
When we woke up this morning, we had no electricity, and when we tried to contact the person from whom we had rented the apartment (it was over 50% cheaper than a hotel), we could not reach him on his cell phone. Luckily, by the time we got back from sightseeing in the afternoon, everything was resolved.
In the evening, we had an outstanding dinner with friends and then watched
Zarkana/Cirque du Soleil at the iconic Radio City Music Hall. It was quite impressive, although we could have done without the filler between acts.
Tomorrow we're going to check out the statue of Liberty and a few other hot spots, followed by more food and drinks!
