Battlefield 1943 takes players back to WWII, offering endless hours of 24 player multiplayer action over three classic and tropic locations; Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. Last monday Xbox 360 players reached the 43 million kills required to unlock the Coral Sea map, and now PS3 fraggers have caught up and did the same. While the person making the 43 millionth kill has been identified, it won't be announced until EA returns to office on Monday.

The recession is finally starting to catch up with the video game industry: Midway closed studios and was sold to Warner Bros. for a few shekels, software sales have slumped for the past few months, and there are layoffs left and right. Even though Free Realms is highly successful, Sony Online Entertainment today issued a statement that it had to lay off 41 people (5% of its workforce).
