EA today released the server file for the upcoming Battlefield: 1942 - Wake Isle demo, that is developed by Digital Ilusions. This server file is 21.5 meg to grab and you can find it here! (thanks VE3D)

The official Battlefield: 1942 web site has started a clock counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds to the release of the multiplayer demo for the upcoming WWII multiplayer game. According to the clock the demo for Digital Illusions and Electronic Arts' game will be released at 12 noon PST (3 p.m. EST) on Friday and will contain the Wake Island map, five player classes and eight kinds of vehicles, including planes and ships. Earlier today Rainer grabbed down this Battlefield 1942 SinglePlayer Demo and tried it out, but he could not play it cuse it jumped back to desktop as soon as the actual game started... He tried it on a P4 1.7/Geforce4MX/WinXP, therefore we decided to test it on a Gforce2 64MB/WinXp/700Mhz computer and it worked out fine.. Battlefield 1942 will support up to 64 players and give them the ability to fully experience World War II combat. Playing as several infantry classes, gamers will also be able to control many weapons available to the Axis and Allies as well as command numerous land vehicles, ships and aircraft. With larger craft such as a bomber or battleship, the game will allow players to choose what stations they serve - pilot, gunner, bombardier, etc. Proper use and management of each vehicle will determine the success or failure of each battle.

Battlefield 1942 puts players at the heart of World War II combat, allowing them to choose from 16 famous battle sites, including Omaha Beach, Stalingrad and Wake Island, from the four main theaters of World War II including the Pacific, Eastern and Western Europe and Northern Africa. With the ability to control more than 35 authentic Axis and Allied vehicles and select from five distinct character classes, players are faced with incredible choices in their plan of action. Just noticed over at Blues that the official Battlefield 1942 site announces plans for a beta test of Battlefield 1942, EA's hybrid 3D action game that's nearing completion at Digital Illusions. The sparse page specifies a few system requirements, provides an email address for interested players to submit their apparently rather freeform application, and 50 beta testers will be selected from those who enter.

In the multiplayer-focused Battlefield 1942, players can heroically storm the beaches of Normandy, direct artillery at Kursk, pilot a fighter at Midway, shell an airstrip at Gaudalcanal, and command a tank in Tobruk - experiencing some of the most dramatic moments of WWII.
