EA has released a new patch for DICE's multiplayer shooter Battlefield Vietnam. This update patch brings your retail game to v1.1 (client & server) and adds a new "Defense of Con Thien" map, including 3 new vehicles (OH-6 Loach and Ka-25 'Hormone' helicopters, and M60 emplacements), improves server browsing and the usual game balace tweaks and bug/crash fixes. Electronic Arts and Digital Illusions announced today that Battlefield: Modern Combat will feature a single-player mode when it ships in fall 2005. The game is currently in development for the PS2 and Xbox. Originally slated for a fall 2004 release, this means EA delayed the title for a year!

The collection box, Battlefield 1942: The WWII Anthology, was launched in the USA at the end of May 2004. It contains the basic Battlefield 1942 game, the Road to Rome and Secret Weapons expansion packs, as well as additional material that has been released within the Battlefield series. When Battlefield Anthology is to be launched in Europe is not yet decided. At the end of March 2004 the Battlefield series had sold more that 3.7 million copies.

EA has issued a
community update in which they announce that a new Battlefield Vietnam v1.02 patch is expected somewhere next week, as well as revealing more details about the larger BFV v1.1 update. "DICE has been able to track down the Crash to Desktop issue that has been reported by the members of our community since the 1.01 update. We will be releasing a new BFV update that addresses this issue next week. Please note that this update is meant only to address the Crash to Desktop issue (along with a related disconnect issue)."

Computer Gaming World magazine will have the first information about Digital Illusions-Electronic Arts' BattleField 2 (working title). The game isn't a direct follow-up to Battlefield 1942 or Battlefield: Vietnam. Instead, it jumps forward to the world of modern warfare. The sequel will feature the latest in modern small arms, heavy weapons, and fighting vehicles -- M-4 carbines with IR scopes; M-60 machineguns with steadying bipods; M-1 tanks with reactive countermeasures; and of course, much more (

Electronic Arts released the first version of the Battlecraft map editor for Digital Illusions' 3D action game Battlefield Vietnam. The editor shipped with the game but is now available as a separate download, and this initial release similarly includes a full set of Object Lightmap templates. At the same token EA has also released a new version of the Battlecraft 1942 editor v2.1 which now incorporates the Object Lightmap templates that used to be a separate download, as well as adding several dozen new features, improvements, bug fixes and other changes (

Battlefield Vietnam, like its brethren Battlefield games, allows players to join forces on teams in games with up to 64 players over the Internet.
