Atari and BioWare have expanded the award-winning Neverwinter Nights with the release of the highly anticipated expansion pack Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark. Available today, Hordes of the Underdark is a companion to the best-selling, fantasy roleplaying game released last year in Neverwinter Nights, which is based in the Forgotten Realms world from Wizards of the Coast’s classic Dungeons & Dragons game. The second official expansion pack, Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark pits players in a conflict to save the embattled city of Waterdeep from an ancient evil buried deep within the earth and stone of Undermountain. Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark is available for PC at retail stores nationwide.

While there is no official Atari announcement yet, the Bioware website has mention that the second expansion for Neverwinter Nights has arrived and is now in stores! Hordes of the Underdark features Epic levels, new prestige classes, new creatures, spells, feats, weapons and new tilesets to explore. Purchase it online or at your local games store. Although not really a secret anymore, 'Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark' was officially announced today. Atari and BioWare Corp. are set to expand the award-winning "Neverwinter Nights," the best-selling, fantasy roleplaying game based in the "Forgotten Realms" world from Wizards of the Coast's classic "Dungeons & Dragons" game. Following the release of the first official expansion pack, "Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide" in June, "Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark" pits players in a battle to save the embattled city of Waterdeep from an ancient evil buried deep within the earth and stone of Undermountain. BioWare has released the first public beta of the Neverwinter Nights Linux Client. They have set up a forum to discuss the client, an email address to use for feedback, and promise frequent updates to the beta. Word is this debut version (build: 1.29.6758 Beta 1) does not support chat or server browsing, but these will be in the next release. Installing the client will require game resources from an existing Windows installation and a CD-Key (thanks Bluesnews). Read more for download links and details on how to install.

BioWare Corp. is pleased to announce that Neverwinter Nights was named the Computer Role-Playing Game of the Year by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) on February 28 at the Sixth Annual Interactive Achievement Awards in Las Vegas. The AIAS achievement award event recognizes outstanding achievement in interactive content and in the interactive community. This is the fourth time in the past five years that BioWare's products have received honors at the AIAS awards: three times for PC Role-Playing Game of the Year (Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, Neverwinter Nights), and once for Character or Story Development (Baldur's Gate II). BioWare will be expanding upon the Neverwinter Nights universe with two upcoming expansion packs: Shadows of Undrentide, set for a Spring 2003 release; and "XP2," the currently unnamed second expansion pack, scheduled for release later in 2003.

The Neverwinter Nights Patches Page now offers downloads of a new version 1.27 patch for Neverwinter Nights for the English, German, French, Italian and Spanish versions of BioWare's D&D RPG. The new version adds a couple of game resources, support for ATI shiny water, some campaign fixes, a new plot wizard for the Aurora toolset, and more. It is warned that modules created and saved under the new version cannot be played with older versions of the game, and they supply a reversion patch to go back to version 1.26 if this is required to play custom modules and such (
