Sega Dreamcast is an associate sponsor of the match being staged at the Esporta Riverside Club in Chiswick next Tuesday evening (4th December) in front of an exclusive audience of 1,500 club members and supporters of Tim's charity, Kids at Heart. The event is called An Evening of Tennis with Tim Henman & John McEnroe and is presented by Mercedes-Benz.
Several Dreamcast game consoles will be set up at the club and a competition held to determine the leading scorer on the night. The game features many of the biggest names in tennis today, including Tim Henman, who also starred in the original Virtua Tennis game that became one of the biggest-selling sports games ever launched by Sega. Also featured are Australian star Pat Rafter and the dynamic Williams sisters.
Copies of the new game, which are available from leading retailers at a recommended retail price of £29.99, will be on offer as prizes and auction items on the night to help raise funds through Tim Henman's Kids at Heart charity for the benefit of the Tennis First Charitable Trust Scholarship - a programme based at the Esporta Riverside Club and designed to support some of London's most promising young players.
"We couldn't ask for a better event at which to introduce such an exciting new game," said Kathryn Clements, Marketing Manager of Bigben Interactive, the license holder for Sega Dreamcast games distribution in the UK. "Tim has proved a popular player in previous tennis games and his match up with a great player like John McEnroe will add a special dimension to our launch activity," she added.
A number of tennis-playing celebrities and VIPs will also attend the event, which will be introduced by News at Ten presenter Trevor McDonald.
