You play as Edith, who tries to figure out why she is the last one in her family alive upon coming back to the house she grew up in. As you explore the house, you’ll find stories about each family member with its own unique gameplay and each ending with the death of that family member.

Experience the life of various family members with stories plucked out of different periods of time. Each story offers a chance to experience the life of a different family member with stories ranging from the early 1900s to the present day. The only constants are that each is played from a first-person perspective and that each story ends with that family member's death. Ultimately, it's a game about what it feels like to be humbled and astonished by the vast and unknowable world around us.

Epic Games announced that What Remains of Edith Finch is joining the Unreal Marketplace Collection, an Unreal Engine initiative that brings free high-quality content to all creators.

Following the large content releases from Epic Games for Paragon and Infinity Blade, Epic is excited to announce new partnerships with Giant Sparrow and Annapurna Interactive as the first in a series of new, free content coming to the Unreal Engine Marketplace from teams across the community.

This exclusive collection of assets features environment models, props, materials, and more from the BAFTA Award-winning title, including:

• Over 3,000 stylized meshes with unique textures and materials
• The Finch family’s unique home, with distinctive bedrooms and furnishings
• Rustic family kitchen with appliances and kitchenware
• Low-poly fantasy kingdom, with townspeople, stalls, and castle building blocks 
• Misty beach environment, including outdoor wedding and party decorations
• And more!

Epic is also dedicating this week’s Inside Unreal and Educator’s livestreams to What Remains of Edith Finch. Today (Thursday, November 12) at 2:00pm EST, the game’s artists will join a special episode of Inside Unreal to discuss how they lovingly handcrafted hundreds of assets for this story-first adventure. Tomorrow (Friday, November 13) at 2:00pm EST, the Educator’s livestream will dive into this new content collection and share how creators can reuse or modify assets to expedite their own projects.

It’s a game that touches on a lot of subjects: death, family, stories and what we leave behind, but more than anything it’s a game about the unknown, about exploring something with no idea of what you’re going to find. This makes the game a little hard to describe because the more I tell you about it, the less it’s going to surprise you.
