Building upon the foundation of groundbreaking visuals and authenticity of EA's Star Wars Battlefront, DICE, Motive and Criterion are teaming up to deliver one of the most expansive Star Wars games to date. Star Wars Battlefront II will allow players to experience the untold story of an Imperial elite special forces soldier in an all-new single player campaign. In epic multiplayer battles, players will be able to pilot a First Order TIE fighter through intense dogfights in space, and play as ground troopers or iconic heroes and villains, such as Yoda and Darth Maul, across all three Star Wars eras.
Featuring new characters created by Motive in close partnership with the story group at Lucasfilm, the Star Wars Battlefront II single player campaign will deliver a new exciting story to the Star Wars universe. Taking place in the 30 years between the destruction of Death Star II and through the rise of the First Order, the single player story introduces Iden Versio, the leader of Inferno Squad, an elite special forces unit of the Galactic Empire, who are equally lethal on the ground and in space. In addition to Iden, players will also encounter and play as other iconic Star Wars heroes and villains like Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren during the campaign.
For more than two years, the team has deployed 25 free content updates that have shaped and expanded Star Wars Battlefront II into something truly special for Star Wars fans. We’ve introduced game-changing heroes, fan-favorite reinforcements, exotic planets, and epic new ways to play across all three cinematic eras. We’ve also shared in your excitement along the way. As developers, it’s incredibly fulfilling to see players of all kinds living out their Star Wars fantasies in our game!
Today, we’re bringing you the details on what’s coming to Star Wars Battlefront II in the next content update named The Battle on Scarif, where we return to the tropical battlefront inspired by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This addition accentuates the incredible breadth of Star Wars Battlefront II, which by the time of Scarif’s release will include content inspired by all Star Wars theatrical releases.
Since launch, we’ve brought new content in the form of free updates to the entire player base, delivering immersive Star Wars battles you can play solo, with friends, and against others across the entire Skywalker Saga. This vision will now be realized as we complete our return to the Age of Rebellion, which we started in February.
Looking beyond April, we’re transitioning to a phase where the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events such as Double XP and more, and game support will carry this broad and rich Star Wars gaming experience into the future. This means that we’re moving away from delivering regular content updates. As the game lives on with the players and our community, we’re looking forward to hearing your stories for years to come.
On April 29, we’re bringing the Age of Rebellion to Supremacy and Instant Action, introducing the high-agency battles on Hoth, Tatooine, Yavin 4, Death Star II, and – the highly requested location from Star Wars Battlefront (2015) inspired by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – the tropical world of Scarif.
Given the massive difference in military might between the Rebels and the Empire – and Death Star IIand Scarif not lending themselves to capital ships narratively – the battles in Age of Rebellion Supremacy will be fought throughout the ground phase exclusively. In return, we’re enabling the ability to pilot starfighters on a selection of the Age of Rebellion Supremacy locations.
Scarif and Crait are both joining the Heroes and Villains game modes and Co-Op will see the addition of the MC85 Star Cruiser, First Order Star Destroyer, and Scarif.
We’re bringing the experience you get in Co-Op to offline solo play, too! Instead of teaming up with other players online, this version will let you play exclusively with and against AI on all Co-Op enabled locations. This new way to play will be included as an option in Instant Action.
Furthermore, we’ve heard you ask for more appearances. As our way of saying thank you, we’re giving all players three new ones inspired by the concluding chapter of the Skywalker saga: Rey wielding her yellow lightsaber, Kylo Ren wearing his reforged mask with the hood up, and Emperor Palpatine binding it all together with his latest, menacing set of robes. This will also be Palpatine’s default appearance in sequel era Supremacy, Co-Op, and Instant Action, as we enable him for those along with Chewbacca on the light side.
We have a couple of special rewards for those of you who love a challenge as well! After being gravely defeated by Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Maul regained his mobility with a pair of mechanical legs and was fueled by his hatred towards the Jedi master. Eliminate 5,000 enemies as Darth Maul to get his Old Master appearance.
Rey’s hooded look, on the other hand, will be awarded to anyone uncovering the mystery on Takodana . . .
The Journey Lives On
Developing characters, worlds, and experiences set in this amazing galaxy that is Star Wars is an honor, and it has continued to be a remarkable, challenging, and ultimately rewarding journey for the entire team. Knowing that we have a passionate community of millions of players and Star Wars fans – just like ourselves – along on the ride, is the greatest inspiration we could ever have.
Community means even more in times when we need to stay physically apart. This is why we encourage you a bit extra to share your #StayandPlay stories on social media. We hope that Star Wars Battlefront II and the upcoming The Battle on Scarif Update will inspire you to keep playing and sharing.
I’m really proud of what we’ve accomplished, and continue to accomplish, together.
May the Force Be with You.
In addition to the all-new single player campaign, the team at DICE is evolving the game's multiplayer to become the ultimate Star Wars battleground. With modes supporting up to 40 players, Star Wars Battlefront II takes fans through a wide range of iconic locations from all three eras: prequel, classic and new trilogy, including new in-game locations such as Yavin 4's jungle canopies, the spaceport town of Mos Eisley, and Starkiller Base. Players can choose from an array of land and air vehicles and master their own hero's journey, with customizable character progression across heroes, villains, troopers and starfighters.
As one of the most requested fan modes, galactic-scale space combat is also brought to life in Star Wars Battlefront II. Criterion, with a deep history of creating some of gaming's fastest and intuitive vehicles, has built space combat from the ground up with refined handling, weapons, and customization options. Players can drop into the cockpit of the galaxy's most iconic ships, weave between asteroid fields and fly through imperial dockyards in high stakes dogfights.
Fans who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront II can join the excitement of the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, with content inspired by the upcoming film including exclusive Kylo Ren and Rey themed looks. Players can also equip both characters with epic ability upgrades in multiplayer. Additionally, when taking the fight to space, players can upgrade to the Star Wars: The Last Jedi Millennium Falcon and a new First Order ship.
Players that order the Star Wars Battlefront II: Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition will not only have access to all the Star Wars: The Last Jedi inspired pre-order content, found in Star Wars Battlefront II: The Last Jedi Heroes, but can also dominate the battlefront as the ultimate Star Wars elite trooper. Every trooper class will receive upgrades, delivering superior firepower, deadly weapon modifications and epic combat abilities. Deluxe Edition owners will also get a head start on the battlefront, being able to jump into the game up to three days early.
Star Wars Battlefront II is currently available worldwide for PS4, Xbox One, and on PC (Origin).
