'Offworld Trading Company' Interdimensional DLC Announced, Scheduled For Later This Week - Screens

by Rainier on March 15, 2021 @ 2:36 p.m. PDT

Offworld Trading Company is a market-based real-time strategy game where corporations struggle for dominance of the astronomical profits that lie in the Martian market.

In the race to colonize planet Mars, everything is up for grabs.

Offworld Trading Company’s quick and intensely competitive matches pit up to 8 players against each other on randomly generated maps.

Players must quickly determine the best path toward building a self-sufficient colony that can extract the abundant Martian resources while maintaining profitability – and surviving the “talents” of shady black-market characters who are all too happy to raid any player’s shipments or smuggle a paralyzing EMP device into any colony for the right price.

The Interdimensional DLC explores an alternate reality by combining all of the challenges players have faced on Jupiter's moons Io and Europa, as well as on Mars' moon, Ceres. Players will vy for economic dominance on maps with mixed terrain where all the rules of different worlds are in play at once.

A variety of terrain types and custom maps adds new challenges and opportunities for any aspiring offworld traders. The frozen tundra of Europa could exist right beside the hot volcanic surface of Io on these worlds, making careful decisions a necessity of survival. Players will need to think ahead about where to place buildings in order to get the most out of available resources, since structures that were previously only available on one world can now all appear on the same map together.

Players will have the opportunity to both explore pre-made custom maps as well as create and share their own maps via the Steam Workshop. Offworld Trading Company's other DLC and expansions are not required to play Interdimensional.

"We wanted to give players a challenge," said lead designer Soren Johnson. "I think that Interdimensional provides a unique experience for both seasoned veterans and newcomers."

Key Features

  • Play on mixed worlds with multiple different rules, buildings, and resources in play at the same time.
  • Play on one of the new included maps Sandstorm, Phoebe Station, or Three Plateaus, or choose to play on a random map for a new game experience every time.
  • Explore custom maps with a variety of terrain types. Frozen terrain with easy access to water can exist directly beside hot volcanic terrain - you will need to choose your HQ placements strategically!
  • Create and share your own mixed maps via the Steam Workshop.

The Interdimensional DLC is coming to PC (Steam) on March 18, 2021.

Unlike traditional RTS games, there are no military units and what you need to win can change at a moment’s notice because on Mars, there are no rules in the free market. None of the 13 resources is more powerful than any other, and everything is for sale. Players gain cash by selling excess resources like carbon, fuel, and silicon on the open market, and spend it buying the resources they’re short on. Prices fluctuate in real time forcing players to adapt their strategy; dump a bunch of iron on the market and its price will crater, making other players’ stockpiles worth much less in the near term.

The game is won when the ultimate cutthroat capitalist completes buys out the stock of all their rivals, thereby seizing control of the entire planet’s economy.

In Offworld Trading Company, the marketplace is the battlefield.

Offworld Trading Company is currently available on Steam or through Stardock.
