FunPlus announced that it has acquired Imagendary Studios and appointed founder Wei Wang (former Blizzard Principal Artist) as Chief Creative Officer.

An esteemed dream builder, Wang will oversee art and design for FunPlus’ worldwide studios as the company pursues development of a highly ambitious, deeply connected metaverse built across many cross-platform titles. Among those global studios is Imagendary, now bearing the FunPlus banner as a premiere AAA development team based in Irvine, CA and Shanghai. The studio is actively hiring for exciting new projects.

“Wei’s iconic art has been beloved for years by fans of the many games he has been integral in crafting,” says Andy Zhong, CEO of FunPlus. “His ability to not only imagine entire worlds but also bring them to life is second to none, and we’re thrilled to have him lead FunPlus’ global creative teams as we strive toward our shared goal of continuing to break the boundaries of what games can be.”

Before joining FunPlus, Wang served as Principal Artist at Blizzard Entertainment for over 10 years, where he helped develop many AAA game franchises including World of Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm, and StarCraft. His creative efforts also fueled the 2016 Warcraft movie, on which he spent three years designing the CGI characters. Wang later spent two years as Principal Artist at Bonfire Studios, which he co-founded prior to founding Imagendary Studios.
