'Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania' Will Feature Jet Set Radio's Beat Character - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Aug. 4, 2021 @ 12:10 p.m. PDT

Monkey Ball Banana Mania is a modern HD remaster of the original three Super Monkey Ball games (Super Monkey Ball, Super Monkey Ball 2, Super Monkey Ball Deluxe).

Go bananas with the definitive remaster of the iconic original Super Monkey Ball games, celebrate 20 years of AiAi and your favorite monkey gang as you roll and maneuver through dazzling worlds when the ultimate Super Monkey Ball adventure launches.

Over 300 lovingly recreated levels and mazes, 12 fun minigames, and a delightful cast of characters make their return to the wondrous worlds of Super Monkey Ball in this faithful remaster – perfectly timed to celebrate 20 years of monkey magic.

Roll, tilt, and bounce through imaginative worlds as AiAi and his all-star cast of monkey friends race to thwart the nefarious schemes of evil monkey mad scientist Dr. Bad-Boon! No banana is safe in this epic new Monkey Ball adventure, featuring modern graphics and features, immersive comic book-style storytelling, 4-player local coop, online challenges and leaderboards, and a barrel’s worth of new playable characters that rekindle the magic of the iconic originals.

SEGA revealed that Beat, laidback “Rudie” and main protagonist from the cult classic Jet Set Radio, is coming to Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania as a playable character when the game launches on PC and consoles on October 5, 2021.

Jet Set Radio, the wall-tagging Dreamcast classic from 2000, introduced players to Beat and the anti-establishment GG’s, the rebel street gang of graffiti artists founded to fight for free expression. Now Beat brings his trademark flair, carefree attitude, and inline skating prowess to the world of Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania as a playable character unlockable on all platforms through normal gameplay at launch.

Beat joins the monkey gang with his original style fully intact, sporting his trademark green goggles, soundwave lenses, oversized headphones, and the same magnetic skates he used to glide and grind through the futuristic streets of Tokyo-to. Instead of bananas, players will collect spray paint cans as they roll, tilt, and bounce through the wondrous worlds of Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania.

Beat is the first of several iconic guest characters joining the monkey gang in Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, so stay tuned for more reveals in the coming weeks!

In addition to the standard edition of the game, SEGA will also release a Digital Deluxe edition of Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania featuring six additional classic character skins, three legendary console skins, 10 customizable Items and classic soundtrack. There will also be a special 20th Anniversary Edition of the game available at retail outlets that includes an art book, reversible cover, collectable sleeve and 10 cosmetic Items.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, rated E 10+, will release on October 5, 2021 for Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam) for $39.99 (console) and $29.99 (PC). The Digital Deluxe edition will retail for $49.99.
