'F1 Manager 2022' Active Development/Support Ends Less Than Two Months After Launch

by Rainier on Oct. 27, 2022 @ 5:55 p.m. PDT

Make your mark on Formula 1 in the officially licensed F1 Manager 2022 as you choose your team and be the boss with the full 2022 roster of staff and drivers.

Following a licensing agreement signed in early 2020 with F1, Frontier is creating a major new game franchise, it’s first foray into an annual sports license, as part of a long term, multi-title agreement with F1.

F1 Manager 2022 offers fans an unrivalled F1 experience, capturing in unprecedented detail the world of F1 and the high-octane excitement of running a team. From the paddock to the podium, players will need to manage decisions on and off the track to ensure their success, all while balancing the books and satisfying both the board and the all-important team sponsors. The team headquarters are the beating heart of any constructor, and in F1 Manager 2022 it’s no different. Aspiring Team Principals will control every aspect of their team from their state-of-the-art HQ. From scouting and investing in best-in-class staff, such as Race Engineers and the Head of Aerodynamics, to developing and assessing new car components, players will need to keep their finger on the pulse to ensure they stay ahead of the competition, both now, and for future seasons to come.

With a full roster of world-class drivers from across F1, F2 and F3 to choose from, between seasons players will have the option to enlist new drivers and assemble their dream team from an authentic pool of current and future stars. Realistically replicated, each driver from the 2022 F1 line-up has been digitally captured to accurately reflect them and their driving style when out on the track. The skill, temperament and athleticism of a driver is essential to any race team. These attributes are reflected by key performance ratings, providing players with vital information on how to effectively manage their drivers during a race. Just like the real world of racing, over time drivers will retire from the sport, so it’s crucial players think ahead to ensure they’ve got a steady stream of upcoming talent in development if they want to secure their long-term motorsport legacy.

Prior to each race weekend, Team Principals will select their allocation of tyres and spare parts, as well as optional objectives from sponsors to bolster their financial position. In practice sessions, drivers will build up their track and car familiarity, reporting feedback to guide car setup ahead of the all-important qualifying session, where it will be in the hands of the player to decide when to send out their cars and maximise their grid position.

Races are shown in broadcast-style visuals, with a variety of on-board and trackside camera angles bringing the action to life across all twenty two 2022 Grand Prix circuits. Keen eared fans might also notice the familiar tones of David Croft, Lead F1 Commentator at Sky Sports, and fellow commentator and former Formula 1 driver, Karun Chandhok, both of whom lend their iconic voices to the game. From lights out to the chequered flag, players can choose to control every decision on-track, from pit strategy to in-race driver commands. Issuing authentic team-radio commands to their drivers and using real-time data to react to dynamic race events such as changing weather, safety cars and red flags, making those crucial calls that can take them to the top step or leave them at the back of the pack.

Leaving a community in utter shock, Frontier Developments announced that it is ending active development/support for F1 Manager 2022 less than two months after launch.

Hey everyone :)

Thank you as always for your continued support and activity in the F1 Manager 2022 community! With the US GP now in the rear-view mirror, we wanted to let you know about upcoming plans for the game.

Our team are currently working on an update for F1 Manager 2022 that addresses more player-reported topics. This includes multiple visual updates to the car models for the official F1 teams. We’ve further differentiated their look by implementing some of the key characteristics of many teams’ 2022 designs, including car parts and liveries. Also, we’re making positive changes regarding fuel usage issues during Qualifying sessions, and amending instances of incorrect ‘Estimated Race Time’ calculations, amongst other optimisations.

This next update for F1 Manager 2022 will be the last significant update that addresses player-reported feedback, or suggested changes and additions. Any potential updates following this would be minor patches that do not noticeably affect gameplay. To ensure upcoming F1 Manager projects realise their potential and meet the expectations of both our team and our community, the development team’s focus must move fully onto projects beyond F1 Manager 2022, after this upcoming update.

Ever since we started to form the F1 Manager community, we’ve listened to and taken actions on your feedback and opinions whenever possible – and that will not be changing. Key reports and requests around F1 Manager 2022 from the community that are yet to be resolved will continue to be prioritised as we create future iterations in this franchise. With that mind, please keep sharing your thoughts in all the usual places, as we’ll be tracking them during development.

Myself and u/SteveFromFrontier will continue to be active across all our channels, after the final update and beyond, to answer questions, create content, and generally hang out with our players. We love seeing your stories, reading suggestions, and nerding out about F1 with you all, so that won’t be stopping.

We’ve said this many times before, but THANK YOU for continuing to be part of the F1 Manager community, and joining us on this journey from the very beginning. F1 Manager 2022 is just the start, and we can’t wait to share more with you in the future!
