'Maneater' Free On Epic Games Store, 'Supraland' Next Week

by Rainier on June 9, 2022 @ 1:39 a.m. PDT

For the next week, the Epic Games Store is offering one title for free: Maneater.

Maneater is an open-world, single-player action-RPG where players take on the role of a shark.

Experience the ultimate power fantasy as the apex predator of the seas -- a giant shark!

In this single-player action-RPG, players must fight to survive as a baby bull shark. Grow in power as you explore a wide range of underwater environments, from swamps and rivers to beach side resorts and the deep blue sea.

Set in the unforgiving waters of the southern US Gulf Coast, players will fight to survive in rivers and streams as well as the open ocean, with danger lurking at every depth. Their only tools are their wits, their jaws, and an uncanny ability to evolve as they feed. Anything and everything is on the menu... kill or be killed.

In this tale of revenge, players can take on the role of an ever-evolving shark and terrorize the coastal waterways, tearing swimmers and divers limb from limb, giving the humans a reason t- fear what lies below. Immersed in a living, breathing world full of threats and rewards, players will have a vast world to explore sunken wrecks, lurk in swamps, or cruise the open ocean looking for their next unsuspecting meal. As your shark evolves customize your maneater to fit YOUR play style. Eat, Grow, Evolve.

Once Maneater, theĀ current free games on the Epic Games Store, has runs its course, it will be up to Supraland, which will be gratis startingĀ June 16 until June 23, 2022.

Supraland is a first-person metroidvania, inspired by classics such as Metroid, Portal, Mario and Zelda, mixing exploration, puzzle and fighting.

In Supraland you explore a large interconnected world in which most ways are at first unpassable until you find new abilities to overcome those obstacles. A cornerstone of Supraland's design was to create abilities that are so versatile, they will keep on surprising you by how many different usages they have. If you combine your abilities, the possibilities become even bigger.

Most of the game is about exploring the sandbox world to track down secrets. Often you will think you are about to get out of bounds and beat the level designer, but right there is a chest waiting for you with a very rewarding upgrade. Supraland respects your lifetime and doesn't bloat the playtime with unlimited no-brainer collectibles.

The deeper you get into the game the more you will be facing creative puzzles you've never seen anywhere before, encouraging you to stop and think about what abilities you have and how you can use them in yet another way. Puzzle types that I already knew from other games were immediately rejected in the design process. And it's important to me that once you understand the idea behind a puzzle, you can pretty much immediately solve it instead of having to go through a cumbersome, frustrating execution.

The fighting mechanics are inspired by old-school, fast-paced shooter games like Unreal, Doom and Quake, encouraging high-speed strafing and jumping while throwing shot after shot at hordes of charging enemies without ever having to worry about weapons reloading.
