'Resident Evil Village' Reveals More Winters’ Expansion Details - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Sept. 15, 2022 @ 5:20 p.m. PDT

Experience survival horror like never before in Resident Evil Village, which will elevate each desperate fight to survive by showcasing the most realistic and terrifying graphics to date.

Set a few years after the horrifying events in the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7 biohazard, the all-new storyline begins with Ethan Winters and his wife Mia living peacefully in a new location, free from their past nightmares. Just as they are building their new life together, tragedy befalls them once again. Chris Redfield, the legendary hero from the Resident Evil series, is reacquainted with the couple and horribly disrupts their life, spiraling Ethan into chaos. A devastated Ethan finds himself in a remote snow-capped village seeking answers after being thrown into an entirely new nightmare.

Prior to the events of Resident Evil Village, Ethan Winters received a mysterious email from Mia, his wife, who had been missing for a few years. Without the slightest hint of hesitation, Ethan made his way to Dulvey, Louisiana to search for Mia’s whereabouts… and was led straight to the mansion of the twisted Baker family as a result. Resident Evil 7 biohazard set the stage for a new generation of survival horror as seen directly through Ethan’s eyes, making the struggle for survival through a house of nightmares that much more personal. While Ethan and Mia were ultimately able to escape and create a new, peaceful life together, a new tragedy is about to unfold… one that will take a distraught Ethan to a mystifying village in search of answers to painful questions.

While the village itself may look pristine from all the freshly fallen snow, disturbing events are happening just out of sight. Flickering movements catch the corners of Ethan’s eyes, while strange shapes loom on the horizon. It’s among the dilapidated sheds and houses that he may find his answers… or he may find something far more sinister. Strange creatures, odd symbols, and an unusual fairy tale all come together with the power of the RE Engine in the latest trailer to make Resident Evil Village a true showcase of next-generation survival horror.

Channeling the capabilities of next generation consoles, the detailed realism and relentless feeling of fear will increase with each desperate battle for survival, while moments of calm will leave players wondering what new horrors await. With hyper-detailed graphics, intense first-person action and masterful storytelling, the terror has never felt more realistic and inescapable.

Those yearning for dark shadows got a first glimpse of the Winters’ Expansion DLC for Resident Evil Village, coming to all available platforms Oct. 28, 2022.

New footage of the long-awaited DLC premiered at Tokyo Game Show 2022’s Capcom Online Program, showcasing Ethan Winters’ new animations from the highly requested “Third Person Mode.”

The video also delved into the twisted realm within the mind of the Megamycete, providing a fresh look at the terrors lurking in “Shadows of Rose.” In this new story set 16 years after the main game, Rose Winters searches for a cure for her powers. However, she must use them to survive her encounters with the Face Eaters. These abilities allow Rose to stun her monstrous pursuers long enough to elude them or target their weak points. Finally, viewers got a glimpse of the new “The Mercenaries Additional Orders” characters in action, including Lady Dimitrescu summoning insect swarms to exterminate her enemies.

The new content includes a Third-Person Mode for the campaign, The Mercenaries Additional Orders featuring new stages and playable characters Chris Redfield, Heisenberg, and Lady Dimitrescu; and a continuation of the story in Shadows of Rose.

The Third Person Mode perspective should make the action familiar to players of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. Familiar mechanics from Resident Evil Village, such as guarding against attacks and kicking away enemies, are present too. Ethan will also have a variety of animations that you’ll only see while playing in Third Person Mode.

The Shadows of Rose DLC

In the The Shadows of Rose DLC Rose was just a baby when her father, Ethan Winters, saved her, putting his own life on the line in the process. This story DLC, played entirely in third-person, will feature Rose 16 years after the events of the original story, now fighting for her survival. The game takes place in the Realm of Consciousness of the “Megamycete”.

This Realm is a world where many traps and monstrosities lurk. However, Rose can only carry a handgun, a little bit of ammo, and first aid med…

With little resources in hand, Rose needs to use the very powers she desperately wants to rid herself of. Her unusual abilities can stop enemies for a while, and can also be used to destroy obstacles in her way.

By using Rose’s power effectively, you can take careful aim at an enemy’s weakness. Please enjoy experiencing the new survival style for Rose.

One of the terrifying enemies that Rose will encounter is known as a Face Eater. This is a dangerous creature that lurks in the Realm of Consciousness, and can steal the life from other living beings. Once one capture Rose, she’ll take a significant amount of damage, so do everything you can to avoid them!

Third Person Mode

The Third Person Mode perspective id something that fans were requesting since the launch of the original Resident Evil Village and should make the action familiar to players of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3.

Familiar mechanics from Resident Evil Village, such as guarding against attacks and kicking away enemies, are present too. Ethan will also have a variety of animations that you’ll only see while playing in Third Person Mode, delivering a new and unique type of horror experience that stands apart from the original first person gameplay.

Players who are playing Village for the first time with Gold Edition and also those who played the original game will enjoy this new mode, as well as seeing Ethan’s animations from a new perspective.

Mercenaries Additional Orders

The Mercenaries Additional Orders will bring new content to the arcade-style The Mercenaries, as well! New stages and characters, like Lady Dimitrescu and Lord Heisenberg, are included. Tower over and crush your enemies in this expanded and even more exhilarating Mercenaries experience.

You can see how Chris’s Onslaught gauge, Lady D’s Thrill Gauge, and Heisenberg’s charged up hammers are represented in the game.

Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, a bundle of the Winters’ Expansion and the main game, will also launch on Oct. 28, 2022 for Nintendo Switch (Cloud) PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam), Mac and Google Stadia.

Resident Evil Re:Verse, a multiplayer experience which will be free for Resident Evil Village players, will go live on the same date.
