'Endless Dungeon' Gets Delayed Until October, Refunds Available

by Rainier on April 12, 2023 @ 9:08 a.m. PDT

Endless Dungeon is a rogue-lite tactical die-and-retry twin-stick action bonanza.

Shipwrecked on a mysterious space station, you'll need to recruit a team of heroes and protect your crystal against never-ending waves of monsters. Or die trying, get reloaded, and try again!

Well, your ship is dead as a doornail and you're stuck on some spatial station that went to the dogs back before they knew how to bark. There's some folks been marooned here for decades, full of tall tales about what is and isn't; stories about how you might get out – or how you might be stuck here pretty much forever… It's all on you to figure out what's happenin', team up with some other castaways, and survive a brand spanking new story in the Endless universe.

Shipwrecked, again? Is this a sequel? Well, the answer is both yes and no. You'll just have to wait to get your hands on it to find out.

At Amplitude Studios, we believe that engaging in repeated suicide missions through abandoned space stations builds character.

SEGA and Amplitude Studios have announced that Endless Dungeon will be delayed on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S until October 19. Early access will be available October 17 for players who pre-order Endless Dungeon “Last Wish” Digital Edition on PC and Console and a Nintendo Switch release date will be announced in due course. Players who have pre-purchased on digital storefronts can receive refunds where applicable in line with platform policy.

Originally planned to launch on May 18, this additional time will allow Amplitude to better incorporate community feedback essential to such an innovative game and continue in the footsteps of its previous titles in the award-winning Endless Universe. Drawing on player feedback, Amplitude will work on improvements including balancing, meta-progression, onboarding, and general polishing to create the ultimate roguelite experience for players.

Romain de Waubert, General Manager and CCO of Amplitude Studios said: “We’re grateful and honoured that players are looking forward to playing Endless Dungeon. The feedback we’ve received across our OpenDev sessions so far has proved to us that we truly have something special on our hands and we want to ensure we have time for the game to reach its full potential.  Players have always been at the heart of our studio’s philosophy and releasing Endless Dungeon in October will allow us the extra time to keep working with the community and polishing the game for an amazing day one experience.  We can't wait for fans of the Universe and newcomers alike to experience Endless Dungeon’s unique gameplay combination of rogue-lite, tactical action and tower defense."

Since Endless Dungeon was announced, players have been part of its development process via Amplitude’s co-development platform Games2Gether. Members have taken part in OpenDev sessions to play the game at different stages in its development and offered their input on specific features touching on everything from the core loop to the meta-progression, more information here. Amplitude will continue to process and implement this feedback to ensure that Endless Dungeon players have the best experience at launch.

To thank the community for their patience as the game gets over the finish line, Amplitude will include some extra free content for those who have pre-purchased the game on PC, and for those among the first to purchase at release on console.

Whether you’re a die-hard PC player or a console afficionado, there’s enough Endless to go around! Digital and physical editions are available for pre-order, with some fantastic pre-launch bonuses and launch content available.

It’s time to test your mettle against new environments and new monsters! OpenDev, is a series of time-limited, targeted, pre-release gameplay scenarios that act as our way of collecting feedback from the community to help us shape the game.

This is the third OpenDev session for Endless Dungeon. It will run from now until January 30th. We’ve incorporated some of your feedback from the first two, with many more changes still in the oven.

Whether you’ve been with us from the start or you’re about to dive in for the first time, we’re eager to get your feedback on how we can improve the game between now and the release on May 18th.

The “Final Rodeo” OpenDev includes:

  • Explore the station in single-player or coop-multiplayer
  • Run 4 different heroes through the gauntlet: Comrade (Gunsmith) [NEW!], Bunker (Tank), Blaze (Artificer), and Shroom (Medic)
  • Explore up to 4 different districts: Astral Harbor [NEW], Procedural FactoryDevotion Garden, and Labor Colony
  • Discover new parts of the Saloon: a workshop to modify your weapons, and beverages from the bar that change your playstyle
  • Fight against 15 different monsters, elite monsters, and for the first time, something a bit scarier… the Shelldiver.

In the meantime, here's what you can expect:

  • A brand spankin' new story in the Endless Universe: A space station that went to the dogs a long time ago. Some folks have been marooned here for decades—it's up to you to figure out what's happening, how (and if) you might get out...
  • Opening new doors for the rogue-lite genre: Behind every door is something that's nasty, new, and different. But if you've got the right turrets, the right iron for the right target, well you might just live... to open the next door.
  • Recruit your suicide squad: Round up your posse from a roster of peculiar characters and see if you can get to the core of the station in one contiguous piece. Control the whole squad by your lonesome or test your survival skills with friends in multiplayer!
  • Crystals are forever: You're gonna mostly be concerned about the health of a rock. Which you'll be carting with you along the way. Get ready to defend the crystal at all costs!

Endless Dungeon is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam) on October 19, 2023, followed by Nintendo Switch at a later time.
