'Resident Evil 4 Remake' Sells Over 4 Million Units, Launches Free Mercenaries DLC

by Rainier on April 7, 2023 @ 8:43 a.m. PDT

In Resident Evil 4, players rejoin Leon, who is now a U.S. agent with a top-secret mission, looking into the abduction of the President's daughter, now with modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics.

Resident Evil 4 is a remake of the original Resident Evil 4 released in 2005. Reawakened for 2023, Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original while using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics.

Resident Evil 4 revolutionized the Resident Evil franchise with its new third-person-camera game-style that combined action, shooting, and resource management elements, subsequently setting the standard for future Resident Evil titles. This new perspective brought players into the action and horrors encountered by protagonist Leon S. Kennedy during his daring rescue mission.

Resident Evil 4 joins Leon S. Kennedy six years after his hellish experiences in the biological disaster of Raccoon City. His unmatched resolve caused him to be recruited as an agent reporting directly to the president of the United States. With the experience of multiple missions on his back, Leon is dispatched to rescue the president’s recently kidnapped daughter. Leon tracks her to a secluded European village, however after making first contact he discovers a fervor beyond reason grips the local populace.

After selling 3 million in its first two days, Capcom announced that Resident Evil 4 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC has now sold over 4 million units worldwide since it's launch on March 24, 2023.

Free Mercenaries DLC is now available!

Race against the clock and battle your way to the top of the leaderboards!

First featured in the original Resident Evil 4, The Mercenaries is back! Are you ready to test your mettle in this thrilling, breakneck fight for survival against an increasingly dangerous horde of enemies?

Characters, old and new, can now use Mayhem Mode—unique abilities that add new layers of strategic and tactical depth never seen before in The Mercenaries!

Leon’s loadout is fixed from the start of play (handgun, shotgun, sniper rifle, and knife). Making fast, strategic decisions about how to dispatch foes is crucial to success.
Defeating enemies in quick succession generates combos and increases the player’s score. Performing actions like melee finishes, headshots, and taking out stronger enemies like the Chainsaw Man also adds precious seconds to the ever-ticking clock.
Like the main story, The Mercenaries is reimagined and awaiting those who enjoy fast-paced action combat!

Now, this reimagined tale of survival in the face of overwhelming terror returns to deliver a visually stunning modern gaming experience that is true to the promise of the original release. Many team members from the production of 2019’s top-selling and critically acclaimed Resident Evil 2 also make their return to delve deeper into the essence of Resident Evil 4.

Fans and newcomers alike can revel in both the new and familiar, as RE Engine heightens the original’s creative direction to tell a story that is darker and even more unsettling.

Resident Evil 4 is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam) at $59.99.
