'Decarnation' Gets Release Date, Music Score Includes 10 Tracks By Silent Hill Composer Akira Yamaoka - Trailer

by Rainier on May 11, 2023 @ 7:00 a.m. PDT

Decarnation is a story rich adventure horror game where you solve cryptic puzzles, fight disturbing enemies, explore a phantasmagorical world of dreams and nightmares, and face the most terrifying monsters from the darkest parts of your soul.

Paris, 1990. Gloria is at the end of her rope. A struggling cabaret dancer dealing with the fraying of her relationships, career, and self-esteem, she takes on a new artistic endeavor sponsored by a mysterious benefactor. Would the generous proposal be Gloria's lucky break, or something worse? A survival story with layered psychological stakes, Decarnation explores the contrast between battling limitations in the physical realm, and the subconscious landscapes one can't escape.

Decarnation is an emotional, startling story-driven experience that will keep you on your toes until the very end.

Wade through surreal interpretations of Gloria’s regular haunts, brought to vivid permanence in her deteriorating mind. Phantasmagorical delusion permeates the air, forcing her to confront hideous anthropomorphizations of her greatest struggles. Complete puzzles and minigames only the strongest can stomach to escape real and metaphorical monstrosities.

Complex themes surrounding relationships, career, self-esteem, and the struggles of life fill this somber tale. Overcome a mix of over 15 different systems and kinds of gameplay, including rhythm, puzzles, stealth sequences, and more to find the goodness amongst the gore in this adventure through the depths of a darkened soul.

Immerse in the bone-chilling pixel art setting with a thoughtfully-crafted soundtrack from stellar minds such as Fleur & Bleu and other partners. Move through disturbing levels to witness how the most beloved 2D survival-horror and adventure-horror games as well as cult movies from Satoshi Kon’s Perfect Blue and David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive blend together to making one uncanny experience.

Publisher Shiro Unlimited and developer Studio QBD revealed that Decarnation will feature the legendary Japanese composer Akira Yamaoka, best known for his work on the Silent Hill series and has composed music for many other games, including The Medium and Lollipop Chainsaw.

The collaboration between Yamaoka and Decarnation will see the composer creating some original tracks for the game, bringing his signature style to the project. Yamaoka's music is renowned for its haunting melodies and chilling atmosphere, making him the perfect choice to score the horror-themed Decarnation.

"The Silent Hill aesthetic and mood have played a crucial role in shaping my creative work on Decarnation,” says Quentin De Beukelaer, Decarnation's creative director. “Therefore, having the opportunity to receive assistance from the talented and generous master Yamaoka-san is a tremendous honor.

Decarnation incorporates elements of Japanese culture, which makes Yamaoka-san's involvement all the more rewarding. His musical compositions are a blend of instrumental, mechanical, and organic sounds that are truly impressive. Alongside our primary composer, Corentin Brasart, we never tire of listening to Yamaoka-san's creations. Even after nearly 25 years since the first Silent Hill game, Yamaoka-san continues to reign supreme as a creative mastermind.”

Yamaoka's music will add an extra layer of tension and fear to the game's spine-chilling atmosphere, making it an even more intense and memorable experience for players.

“I am delighted to have been able to take part in Decarnation's development, which draws its inspiration from works that are extremely dear to me, such as "Moju: The Blind Beast" by Edogawa Rampo.” said Akira Yamaoka. “It is one of my favorite novels and has inspired many of my personal creations. In many ways, Decarnation reminds me of this work, and I have developed a special connection with this game. I sincerely hope that players will enjoy it as much as I do!”

Fans of horror games and Yamaoka's music alike can look forward to experiencing the unique blend of terror and beauty that this collaboration promises to deliver.

Decarnation will petrify PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch players on May 31, 2023 at €14.99/£13.49, and will be available with English, French, German,  Polish, Spanish, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese language support.
