"I walk in a land of desperation. A wasteland of the exiled and the outcast. Where the broken strive to build and the weak are crushed while the strong survive."
These are the words of Conan the Barbarian as he strides across a desert wasteland, skulls and bones crushing beneath is sandaled feet.
Conan Exiles is first and foremost a multiplayer game that can be enjoyed on both private and public servers, but it will also feature a single-player mode.
Journey through a vast, seamless world filled with the ruins of ancient civilizations and uncover its dark history and buried secrets as you seek to conquer and dominate the exiled lands yourself. Start with nothing but your bare hands and forge the legacy of your clan, from simple tools and weapons to gigantic fortresses and entire cities.
Funcom, in collaboration with Inflexion Games, today announced Conan Exiles Enhanced, a free and massive visual overhaul for Conan Exile.
Conan Exiles Enhanced will be available on May 5th for all owners of Conan Exiles on Steam free of charge. The timing is not a coincidence. May 8th marks Conan Exiles’ 8-year anniversary, and this visual upgrade is our celebratory gift to all past, present, and future players of the game on Steam.
Built in Unreal Engine 5, Conan Exiles Enhanced brings eight years of post-launch content into a fully upgraded experience with dramatically improved visuals, enhanced performance, and modern rendering technology. The update revitalizes the brutal world of Conan, delivering a deeper level of immersion for both new players and long-time fans.
Leveraging Unreal Engine 5, the enhanced version targets smooth 60+ FPS gameplay across Low, Medium, High, and Ultra settings on most PCs, while also delivering strong performance on Steam Deck.
For the first time ever, players who own the Isle of Siptah expansion will now also be able to travel freely between the Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah. The two regions are now merged into one continuous experience, allowing players to fully explore both instead of having to pick one at the start of the game. In multiplayer, any server can now support both maps simultaneously. This massively expands the available play area for those who own the Isle of Siptah expansion.
“Conan has been the heart of Funcom for nearly two decades, and with the new Enhanced upgrade, Conan Exiles continues to carve its legacy in video games,” said Chief Creative Officer Joel Bylos.
“We know these upgrades are often sold at a premium or released as a separate, enhanced product, but we wanted to offer this for free to fans past, present, and future, as an anniversary gift and a token of our appreciation for their support. We are so proud of this game and the work our team has put into it over the years, and we want this upgrade to breathe new life and energy into the game for a long time to come.”
"We’re honored to collaborate with Funcom on upgrading Conan Exiles to Unreal Engine 5. Taking such a beloved game and updating it with new technology, materials and shaders, UI, and a range of quality-of-life (QoL) improvements creates a new foundation for the next decade of adventures for players around the world." said CEO, Inflexion Games Aaryn Flynn.
There is a lot to learn about this upgrade, and for more information about what it does, how the transition will work, and how you will be able to access it, please check out this handy FAQ released today.
What is Conan Exiles Enhanced?
Conan Exiles Enhanced is a free major update coming to PC (Steam) on May 5 that significantly improves the graphics and performance of Conan Exiles by upgrading it to Unreal Engine 5. It also features several quality-of-life updates and the new features listed below.
Merged Worlds: Exiled Lands & Isle of Siptah – Explore both regions with the same character, teleporting between maps with no restart required. If you’re hosting a server, both maps can exist on the same server at the same time. Access to the Isle of Siptah still requires ownership of the Isle of Siptah DLC.
Multiple Characters Support: Maintain and switch between multiple single-player characters per account.
Revamped User Interface: Cleaner menus and improved navigation.
Enhanced Crafting and Building: Crafting takes ingredients from nearby storage and follower inventories.
Day one Modding Support: Several popular mods ready at launch, with a refreshed Mod Dev Kit.
Save transfer support: Carry over your progress from the Exiled Lands, including characters, bases, and loot, or start fresh in a revitalized world.
Reduced Client Size: The client size has been reduced to just 40GB – one third of its previous 120GB – making it a much more accessible option for users with limited storage space.

What platforms will the update be released on?
This upgrade will be available to all current and future owners of Conan Exiles on Steam starting May 5th.
Will the update be released on other platforms and console?
While there are no current plans, we are considering bringing the update to Epic Games Store, MS store, Xbox and PlayStation platforms later.
How will I be able to access the update?
If you already own Conan Exiles on Steam, it will be updated to Conan Exiles Enhanced on May 5th. The UE4 version will remain available to those who want to play it. The Funcom Launcher will have options to help you select which version you want to play.
Will there be continued support on the Conan Exiles UE4 version?
The UE4 version will remain available on consoles (Xbox, PlayStation), as the Enhanced update is currently for PC (Steam) only. Consoles will receive necessary updates to address critical bugs and will still have access to official UE4 servers and the Bazaar, but will not receive any new major content updates. PC players (including Epic Games Store and MS store) who want to continue playing the UE4 version can do so by switching to Conan Exiles Legacy, but this version will not receive additional updates, support, access to the Bazaar, or official servers.
Note: Crom Coins will no longer be valid on the UE4 (Conan Exiles Legacy) PC versions (Steam, Epic Games Store, MS store) once Conan Exiles Enhanced goes live as the Bazaar will be disabled on PC in Conan Exiles Legacy. However, Crom Coins will carry over for Steam players who wish to continue their journey in Conan Exiles Enhanced. If you plan to continue to play on the UE4 Conan Legacy version we recommend spending your currency before May 5 when Conan Exiles Enhanced launches.
Developing both versions in parallel isn’t an option due to divergence in code and assets as well as the development resources necessary to do so.
Note: If players choose to continue playing in UE4 with Conan Exiles Legacy, they can do so in single player or on a private server. They can maintain their progress in Conan Exiles Legacy by doing the following:
Official servers: On May 4th, 15:00 UTC, all Official PC servers will be brought down in anticipation of the update to Conan Exiles Enhanced (UE5). The entire server database will be updated to UE5, including your character. Once this happens, there is no way to take your character back to Conan Exiles Legacy (UE4). To keep your character in Conan Exiles Legacy, you will need to remove it from the server prior to May 4th. You can do this using the Server Transfer Tool. You will then be able to migrate your character to a Conan Exiles Legacy private server or single-player game.
Note: You will retain your character level, progress, inventory, and followers, but will not be able to retain your bases or any other items placed in the world. To facilitate rebuilding, you can dismantle your base and store the materials and other items you wish to take with you in your followers’ inventories.
Private servers: Private server owners will have the option to continue playing in UE4 using Conan Exiles Legacy. Prior to the May 5th update, it is recommended to make backups of the following game database files, which will need to then be copied to the corresponding folder for Conan Exiles Legacy after the update:
Exiled Lands
…\steamapps\common\Conan Exiles Dedicated Server\ConanSandbox\Saved\game.db
Isle of Siptah
…\steamapps\common\Conan Exiles Dedicated Server\ConanSandbox\Saved\dlc_siptah.db
Single player: Prior to the May 5th update, it is recommended to make backups of the following game database files, which will need to then be copied to the corresponding folder for Conan Exiles Legacy after the update:
Exiled Lands
…\steamapps\common\Conan Exiles\ConanSandbox\Saved\game.db
Isle of Siptah
…\steamapps\common\Conan Exiles\ConanSandbox\Saved\dlc_siptah.db
Will existing saves carry over?
Depending on how you play, there will be multiple options available when you upgrade to the UE5 version.
Official Servers: If you play on an official UE4 Exiled Lands server on Steam, your server will be updated to UE5 with everything carrying forward in the update. Your character, followers, and bases should not be affected. This does not apply to Isle of Siptah servers, however. The island itself has been merged with the Exiled Lands, which allows for a better experience in switching between the two maps, but this required a change to the physical coordinates of the island. As such, bases on the Isle of Siptah cannot be preserved in the UE5 update. You can prepare for this in a couple of ways:
The best option for Isle of Siptah players is to prepare for the UE5 update by dismantling their bases and depositing the materials in the inventories of their followers prior to the Official server downtime on May 4th, 15:00 UTC. If they are in a clan, it is recommended they leave the clan and use the thrall and pet trading posts to transfer ownership of followers to their individual characters. Once the update to UE5 happens, they will be moved to an Exiled Lands server, along with their followers, at which point they can make their way back to the Isle of Siptah to rebuild.
Alternatively, players can simply wait until the update, at which point their characters will be migrated via Server Merge to an Exiled Lands server, maintaining character level, progress, followers, and inventory, but dropping them at a new character spawn point in the Exiled Lands. Please note that, with this option, bases will be lost and players will not retain the materials to rebuild. We will post a mapping of which Exiled Lands servers each Isle of Siptah server is being merged to, so that players can find their new servers.
Private Servers: The process will differ for Exiled Lands servers and Isle of Siptah servers.
Exiled Lands
Exiled Lands database files will be readable in UE5 by Conan Exiles Enhanced. It is still recommended that private server owners make backups of the UE4 game database files prior to the May 5th update.
…\steamapps\common\Conan Exiles Dedicated Server\ConanSandbox\Saved\game.db
The private server owner will need to ensure the correct game database file (game.db) is in the corresponding folder location for Conan Exiles Enhanced. This will carry forward all characters and structures to the UE5 version.
Isle of Siptah
The same restrictions discussed above apply with regard to the Isle of Siptah, in that bases and other player-built structures will not be transferrable in the same way as with the Exiled Lands. Because there is no separate map for the Isle of Siptah in Conan Exiles Enhanced, there will not be any private Isle of Siptah servers, either. Even if playing on the Isle of Siptah, players in Conan Exiles Enhanced will need to play on an Exiled Lands server. This will require starting with a fresh Exiled Lands database, as the database files from UE4 are not cross-compatible between maps. The following process is recommended:
Prior to the May 5th update, the server owner can create a new Exiled Lands server in UE4.
Players can then use the Server Transfer Tool to migrate their Isle of Siptah characters to the Exiled Lands server in UE4 (The server owner will need to ensure that the server settings allow character imports). This will drop players at a new character spawn point in the Exiled Lands.
Note: Players will retain their character level, progress, inventory, and followers, but will not be able to retain their bases or any other items placed in the world. To facilitate rebuilding, they can dismantle their bases and store the materials and other items they wish to take with them in their followers’ inventories.
The server owner can then follow the instructions above for Exiled Lands servers regarding the upgrade to Conan Exiles Enhanced on May 5th, including backup of the Exiled Lands database and ensuring that the correct version is in the corresponding folder location for Conan Exiles Enhanced.
Single– player: The process will differ for Exiled Lands servers and Isle of Siptah servers.
Exiled Lands
Exiled Lands database files will be readable in UE5 by Conan Exiles Enhanced and the update to UE5 should be seamless for single-player games. However, it is still recommended that you make backups of the UE4 game database files prior to the May 5th update.
…\steamapps\common\Conan Exiles\ConanSandbox\Saved\game.db
If you encounter any issues or loss of character or progress with the upgrade, you can use your backup to ensure the correct game database file (game.db) is in the corresponding folder location for Conan Exiles Enhanced. This will carry forward all characters and structures to the UE5 version.
Isle of Siptah
The same restrictions discussed above apply with regard to the Isle of Siptah, in that bases and other player-built structures will not be transferrable in the same way as with the Exiled Lands. Because there is no separate map for the Isle of Siptah, there will not be a separate game database file, either. Even if playing on the Isle of Siptah, players in Conan Exiles Enhanced will be using an Exiled Lands database file (game.db). This will require starting with a fresh Exiled Lands database, as the database files from UE4 are not cross-compatible between maps. The following process is recommended:
Prior to the May 5th update, players can use the Server Transfer Tool to migrate their Isle of Siptah characters to an Exiled Lands single-player game in UE4.
Players can then follow the instructions above for Exiled Lands savegames regarding the upgrade to Conan Exiles Enhanced on May 5th, including backup of the Exiled Lands database and ensuring that the correct version is in the corresponding folder location for Conan Exiles Enhanced. After the upgrade to Conan Exiles Enhanced, players can
Note regarding savegames and database files: While UE4 databases will be readable by UE5, the reverse is not true. Once your character or your game database is updated to UE5, you will not be able to transfer it back to UE4. If you wish to retain your characters or savegames in Conan Exiles Legacy, please migrate your characters off Official servers and back up your database files prior to the May 5th update to Conan Exiles Enhanced.
Note regarding UE4 Server Transfer Tool restrictions: In order to prevent exploits and other game-breaking issues, character imports are subject to restrictions dependent on the original source of the stored character. Characters from single-player games are not allowed to be imported to dedicated servers of any kind, private or official. Likewise, characters from private servers cannot be imported to an official server. In addition, PvE characters cannot be imported to a PvP server. Characters can be imported to a server of equal or lesser restrictiveness, as follows: Official PvP => Official PvE-C => Official PvE => Private Dedicated => Single Player/Coop. There is also a one-day cooldown that applies to character transfers using the Server Transfer Tool.
What will the server structure look like for Conan Exiles Enhanced?
Official Servers:
All existing Official Exiled Lands PC servers will be updated to UE5.
All Official Isle of Siptah PC servers will be closed as of May 4th, 15:00 UTC, with characters migrated to Exiled Lands servers and the possibility to dismantle your bases and save the materials (more details below).
A number of “fresh start” official PC servers will be launched in each region to allow players to experience the game from the very beginning.
Private servers:
We are working with some server hosting providers to ensure that they are ready to host the UE5 version on launch day. While this should provide most of our private server owners with a seamless experience, it is not possible for us to collaborate with all the companies that may be providing hosting services for Conan Exiles. If you are interested in knowing whether your provider will be ready for the UE5 update and what that process will look like, please reach out to them directly.
Note regarding consoles and UE4 servers: Console servers (Xbox and PlayStation) will remain on UE4 and there will be no immediate change for those platforms related to the UE5 update. For those who wish to continue playing UE4 on a dedicated PC server, you should be able to continue using the UE4 client and renting a private UE4 server from your hosting provider.
Will Conan Exiles Enhanced support rented servers?
We’re working with select hosting providers to support the UE5 version at launch. For details about your server, please contact your hosting provider directly.
Can I play on any official servers, regardless of the version of the game I am using?
The short answer is “no,” but the details depend on the platform you are playing on. Your client version must match the version of the server. All official PC servers will be updated to UE5, and because the UE5 update is only available on Steam, this unfortunately means players on Epic Games Store and Windows Store will not be able to access official servers from launch. You will, however, still be able to play solo or in co-op on private or self-hosted servers. Consoles (Xbox and PlayStation) will remain on UE4, as will the official servers for those platforms.
Why aren’t there any Isle of Siptah servers on PC anymore?
The Isle of Siptah has been merged with the Exiled Lands, which means that separate servers are no longer necessary. All Isle of Siptah players on dedicated servers will need to be moved to Exiled Lands servers, where they can then return to the Isle of Siptah through character creation (if they choose to make a new character) or through an in-game teleport (if they choose to move their existing character to the new server).
Adding the Isle of Siptah to the Exiled Lands allows for a better experience in switching between the two maps, but also required a change to the physical coordinates of the island. As such, bases on the Isle of Siptah cannot be preserved in the UE5 update. The best option for players who want to keep their characters from the Isle of Siptah is to prepare for the update by dismantling their bases and storing the materials in their followers’ inventories, along with all of the other items they want to take along with them. This should be done prior to the Official server downtime of May 4th, 15:00 UTC. For Official servers, once the update to Conan Exiles Enhanced happens, their character will be moved to an Exiled Lands server, along with their followers. They will then be able to return to the Isle of Siptah by speaking to one of several special NPCs scattered around the Exiled Lands. From there, they can stake out a land claim, place out their followers, and rebuild their bases. More details specific to your particular server type are explained in the “Will existing saves carry over?” section above.
Who are Inflexion Games and what’s been their role?
The Unreal Engine 5 upgrade was developed in collaboration with Inflexion Games, and we worked together on multiple different areas for this release.

Yes. The new version fully supports mods, but some might need to be upgraded to work with Conan Exiles Enhanced. We are currently working with modders to make sure as many as possible will be supported in the new version of Conan Exiles.
Will there be any future content releases coming to Enhanced version?
Our focus now is the successful release of Conan Exiles Enhanced. We’ll talk about future plans when ready.
Will my purchases carry over?
Yes—everything you own comes with you. Crom Coins, Bazaar items, DLC, and Twitch Drops will all be available in the Enhanced version.
Note: Any purchases made in the UE5 version will not apply to the UE4 Conan Exiles Legacy version.

Harvest resources to build weapons and tools. Build a shelter to survive. Ride across a vast world and explore alone, or band together with other players to build entire settlements and fortified strongholds, and wage war against your enemies as you unleash your fury in savage, fast-paced combat that will see limbs flying and heads rolling.
Enslave the bandits of the exiled lands to do your bidding by breaking them on the grueling Wheel of Pain. Sacrifice the beating hearts of your enemies on the blood-soiled altars of your god to seize true power and glory. Summon the colossal avatar of your god and see them lay waste to your enemies and their homes.
You can even align yourself with the Hyborian gods, building altars to their glory and sacrificing the bloody hearts of enemy players upon them to shift the balance of power in your favor. Players will also have to face the purge: a special event where NPC armies from the neighboring kingdoms sweep in to destroy the progress that the exiles have made. Will you stand together with your fellow players against the purge, or will you use it to your advantage?
Just remember: in this brutal land of vengeful gods, bloodthirsty cannibals, and vicious monsters, survival is more than tracking down food and water. Explore mysterious ruins in search of treasure and knowledge, but beware the risk of your mind being corrupted by the dark forces of the world. Traverse vast sand dunes and seek shelter from scouring sandstorms sweeping across the burning sands. March into war against your enemies and unleash your savage fury in brutal combat. Go in unprepared and it will be your head rolling and limbs flying.
Conan Exiles is not an empty sandbox. It is a world rich in history where you must discover the knowledge and secrets of ancient civilizations as you struggle to build your own.
