In the grim darkness of the far future, war has returned to the ravaged world of Kronus.
Prepare to unleash hell in Dawn of War IV, the next chapter in the iconic Warhammer 40,000 RTS series.
Set many years after the events of Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, war has returned to the planet Kronus, along with Captain Cyrus, Chief Librarian Jonah Orion and Warboss Gorgutz and several new commanders as four factions fight for supremacy. Kronus features a number of distinct biomes including the Wasteland, Iceland, Highlands, Hive City & Manufactorum regions.
Cyrus narrates his own life of duty, war, and sacrifice, revealing the four main playable factions: Space Marines (Blood Ravens), Orks, Adeptus Mechanicus, and the Necrons, and returning characters such as Jonah and Gorgutz. It shows the grim, dark, and brutal nature of war at an epic scale, both ranged and melee.

The RTS King is back...and is bigger than ever!
Originally announced for September 17th, developer KING Art Games announced that they are taking a little more time to further refine the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV experience to deliver the highest level of quality on day one. As a result, Dawn of War IV will now launch on Dec. 3, with Commander Edition players gaining early access on Nov. 30.
Development continues at full pace, and players can expect more Battlefield Reports, gameplay showcases, and developer deep dives over the coming months as the studio shares more of what’s to come.
“As we approached the final stages of development, we saw an opportunity to further enhance Dawn of War IV and deliver the quality of experience we’ve always envisioned,” said Creative Director Jan Theysen. “The additional time will allow us to continue optimizing performance, resolving bugs, and applying further polish to ensure players have the best possible experience from day one.”
Alongside today's announcement, KING Art Games has released an updated Year One roadmap reflecting the revised launch timing. Release dates for post-launch content will be announced at a later date.
The war will continue long after launch. Throughout Year One, players can look forward to free updates including the return of Crusade Mode, new maps, modes, Commanders, and the Mission Editor, alongside two major story expansions that will deepen the conflict on Kronus and introduce a new playable faction to the battlefield.
Key Features:
- Four fully playable and distinct factions: Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and the Adeptus Mechanicus. Each of the four factions in Dawn of War IV have a separate campaign which tells a different side of the overall story, featuring a total of 70+ missions.
- Extensive solo campaigns and other game modes: Skirmish, co-op, and competitive multiplayer, along with the return of the fan-favorite Last Stand. In each of the game’s modes, players build bases, assume control of faction Commanders, gather resources, and command units to ultimately overwhelm the enemy’s forces.
- Legendary Warhammer storytelling at its finest: Co-written by legendary Black Library author John French, each faction has its own cinematic CGI intro, which leads into a non-linear campaign, providing a wealth of replayability for players who want to explore every inch of this epic saga.
- Biggest Dawn of War at launch: Four distinct factions, 10+ playable Commanders, 110+ units / buildings, many of which are customizable, an in-game editor for player-created content, and a Painter tool for unit customization.
- Modern innovation mixed with classic RTS mechanics: With the revolutionary Combat Director, gameplay will have a next-level display of visceral melee combat.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is coming to PC (Steam) on December 3, 2026.
