14. 'GTA: San Andreas' (Xbox/PC)

Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas. On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets.

Tim "Rabbit" Mithee: Some gamer I am. I haven't played San Andreas yet. Should I check in my ID card at the door and go get a job in a library? Before anyone doubts my credentials, let me explain: I've always been far more fond of GTA on the PC. The controls work better for me, the visuals are far better, and frankly, I just like PC games better overall. So I've held out on the power of San Andreas for a bit to get the version I really want, and boy, do I want this version. From what's been pushed at my face in the various previews, articles, and commercials, this looks like another monster of an upgrade for the GTAIII enterprise: more guns, more violence, more driving like a maniac through the streets of a fictional city. The new explorable state will certainly give any player something to do between missions, and the new backstory is several steps above the Vice City storyline. I look forward to cappin' fools, I do.

Eric Peters: When it comes to games that I can't wait for, GTA usually isn't far from the top of the list. You have a good story, great voice acting, open-ended gameplay and a massive city to do whatever your heart desires. Being mainly an Xbox gamer, it's always tough seeing a brand-spanking new GTA game get announced for the PS2. We all know it's coming to our favorite green and black console at some point, but the wait is killer and the PS2 gamers love to tease us. The extra wait is always worth it, as Rockstar gives just a little bit more lovin' to our version. I can't wait to finally be able to sit down and play this game on my good ol' Xbox, to join in on some PS2 gamers' conversations, and finally tell my own stories about how I wrought havoc from one end of the city to the other!

Judy Thai: For the first time, Rockstar made me jealous for being a non-Playstation 2 owner when they released GTA: San Andreas. The sheer magnitude, story, and amount of gameplay hours make this title a must-have, and with several million copies sold, it seems that a lot of gamers have answered the call. Now we Xbox and PC heathens will finally get a chance to plunge into the gangstah world and avenge our mom's death, but slightly better-looking graphics (no offense, PS2 owners) and some additional bonus material. GTA has already made a name in gaming history and spawned plenty of clones, but Rockstar does what it does best by staying the course. Even if San Andreas were only about running, or walking, around and taking over rival gangs' territories, it would be a fun game, but add to the mix the ability to navigate a wide assortments of vehicles, helicopters, and even airplanes (which you can jump out of), and variety is ensured. Even some minor RPG elements are present, you can improve your character in various "abilities" as you progress in the game, which is always fun to toy with.
