About Judy

As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

16. 'Alone in the Dark' (PS5, XSX, PC)

This re-imagination of the original trilogy aims to scare you to the bone and returns to infamous locations with a whole new story and mythical places to explore.

Redmond Carolipio: I'm admittedly smitten with both of the lead actors in this game, David Harbour and Jodie Comer. However, Alone in the Dark has always struck me as a title that begged for a reimagining, but I didn't know it was going to go to this level. I'm getting some Resident Evil remake vibes with the modern look, but I want to see how the game leans into character performance to provide some actual horror. This game looks creepy as hell.

Chris "Atom" DeAngelus: The Resident Evil before Resident Evil, Alone in the Dark has always been the franchise trying to reinvent itself for the modern horror landscape. The latest game is a remake/reimagining of the original, starring David Harbour and Jodie Cormer as long-time franchise protagonists Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood, and it looks to be giving the franchise the big-budget revival it's been begging for.

Rainier Van Autrijve: I remember playing the original AitD in 1992. At the time, it was generally considered to be the first survival-horror game, and it scared the crap out of me with its creepy sound effects and haunted house. Ignoring 2015's AitD: Illumination (online only), we haven't had a real title in the franchise since 2008, and after THQ Nordic acquired the license from Atari in 2018, it greenlit a reimagination of the series. It runs on the Unreal Engine, so I can't wait to explore Derceto Manor while experiencing the atmospheric lighting and audio as Emily Hartwood (Jodie Comer from "Killing Eve" and "Free Guy") or Edward Carnby (David Harbour from "Stranger Things").
