The Baldur's Gate series are still considered by many some of the best RPG games around, developed by Bioware, but hasn't been heard of since 2001's Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal. At some point Black Isle Studios was said to be working on a 3rd installment until it went belly up, after which several key members went on to form Obsidian Entertainment, who took over the Neverwinter Nights franchise from Bioware. Rumor has it that a "more than capable" developer is working on BG 3, tentatively scheduled for late 2009, and while Atari declined to comment, it did confirm it holds the license.
