Back in 2006 Multiverse optioned the rights from 20th Century Fox to develop an MMOG based on Joss Whedon's sc-fi TV series Firefly, as well as Buffy the Vampire Slayer (in 2008). Now neither of those franchises will see the light of day as Multiverse has shut down due to lack of funds.

Announced last year but not heard of since, Multiverse's Firefly MMO has been put on hold according to online reports in favor of another Joss Whedon creation, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Claiming the Buffy property has more potential, the TV series-based MMO will be a fully immersive 3D environment or as a Flash-based 2D game, where both types of players can interact.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Sacrifice combines third-person and first-person gameplay to create an experience like nothing else on NDS. The stakes are high for players as they take on the role of Buffy to seal the re-opened Hellmouth in an original story penned by Rob Deshotel, a writer from the TV series.

The third person action game based on the TV show was first announced as a PC title but now Stomped by a source at Fox Interactive confirms that the game, developed by The Collective, will instead become an Xbox exclusive title for release in 2002.
