Videogame publisher Capcom has launched a special telephone helpline for consumers scared from playing its latest title Resident Evil Zero. Available now on 08700 46 55 20 (calls charged at national rates), the line has been designed explicitly to offer comfort and reassurance to terrified gamers. Players simply ring up and listen to the two-minute recorded message scripted by a top psychologist. Once the call is completed, they should feel much more calm.

Resident Evil Online is set in Raccoon City and seems to feature gameplay typical of the series, but it will allow up to four players play together at once. There are eight characters -- including a police officer, plumber, journalist, and surgeon -- each with his or her own skills. Cooperation is a big part of the online game's design. Player characters can interact by exchanging weapons, helping another player get up, or by providing a steady shoulder for a wounded character to lean on. However, players can't always rely on the security of a group and may start a scenario separated from each other. Capcom Entertainment announced a multi-million dollar national marketing campaign to support the recent release of Resident Evil 0, exclusively for the Nintendo GameCube. The marketing campaign, which will run throughout the holiday season, features a multi-million dollar North American television advertising program that begins November 25, a slew of print ads in consumer and enthusiast publications, an extensive radio and online advertising to generate over 250 million consumer impressions.

Resident Evil Zero features two main characters: Rebecca, a rookie Raccoon City Police Officer who first appeared in the original Resident Evil, and Billy, a framed convict on the run. Capcom Entertainment today announced the release of Resident Evil Gaiden, a new chapter in Capcom’s acclaimed Resident Evil series for the Game Boy Color system. Resident Evil Gaiden is a combination of the survival-horror and first person shooting genres featuring well-known characters Barry Burton and Leon Kennedy. Resident Evil Gaiden was developed for Capcom by Virgin Interactive and has been rated “T” for teens by the Entertainment Software Rating Board.
