End of July, EA and DICE announced that they were working on the v1.03 patch for their FPS Battlefield 2, with a projected release date late August. As that deadline creeps closer, a community update issued earlier today points out that it will not be ready in time. " Unfortunately, as we approach the end of this month, it has become apparent that we will not meet this goal, and we wanted to keep you abreast of our progress. We are committed to making the 1.03 Update as comprehensive as possible, so while it is important to us to keep the release date, it is more important that we take the time to do this right." No new estimate was given, apart from saying it is coming.

Mythic Entertainment today released patch 1.78 and introduced the new Realm vs. Realm battlefield, the Isle of Agramon, into the world of Dark Age of Camelot. Located in the North Sea within the New Frontiers, the island is a centrally located battlefield that gives all players easy access to RvR combat and facilitates easier movement between the Realms of Hibernia, Midgard, and Albion.

While Battlefield 2: Special Forces has barely been announced and is not yet available, European online retail store World of Games seems to reveal that there is already a second addon for DICE's online shooter in the works. While the product listing does not have any specific details, or even a product name apart from Battlefield 2 Addon 2, it does however list the new addon as scheduled for March 2006. Truth or not, time will tell....

EA Rolls Back 'Battlefield 2' Stats

Earlier today people reported that certain individuals managed to hack into EA's Battlefield 2 stats server and as a result unlocked all weapons for friends & family. EA responded "All of the changes made will be rolled back in the next couple hours. Users may have to rechoose any unlocks they would have legitimately made in the last day or so as a result of the roll-back, but no stats should be lost."

EA revealed today that DICE is pluggin away at yet another patch for Battlefield 2, and it is expected to be released late August. EA has released the highly anticipated first patch for DICE's Battlefield 2. This patch brings your retail game to v1.02 (eventhough it still says v1.01) and addresses the previous memory leak, an issue that caused the multiplayer browser to become unresponsive, some game controls were not available to be rebound within the Options menu, fixed a crash with rebinding LMB, AI becoming unresponsive, and a few graphical tweaks. While Battlefield 2 is currently being plagued by user login issues, GameSpy are being investigating the matter, but as a result external stats tracking may be temporarily disabled. EA has also announced that a HOTFIX candidate for Battlefield 2 v1.01 is currently in testing, which the fix for the memory leak found in v1.01 is being tested and will soon be available. No specific release date was given, but it's not far off ...

Not a big surprise considering its retail success, through an interview with IGN, EA revealed that its DICE development studio is working on an expansion pack for its recently released multiplayer FPS sequel Battlefield 2. While the original game is being fought out between regular grunts, BF2: Special Forces will beef up all the classes to Special Forces and add 7-8 new night/day maps (smaller troop oriented, urban environment, airport map, missile launch facility etc.), gadgets (night vision and grappler/zipline, flashbang, tear gas), six new armies (Navy Seals, British SAS, Russian Spetznaz, MEC Special Forces and two insurgent groups), ten new vehicles, and twelve new base weapons. Battlefield 2: Special Forces is expected Fall of 2005.

'Battlefield 2' - v1.01 Patch Pulled And HotFix Coming Soon

"Since the BF2 v1.01 update is causing memory leakage on some systems, we recommend that you reinstall the game and NOT the v1.01 update released earlier this week. Reinstalling Battlefield 2 will not affect your in-game medals or ranked server statistics. EA and DICE are committed to getting a fix for v1.01 as soon as we possibly can and will continue to keep you informed through this web space in the coming days. NOTE: If you installed and are running the newer server files (Win and Linux versions) made available earlier this week, please revert those as well, those files had the same issues with memory leaks as did the v1.01 update."

In anticipation of tomorrow's v1.01 patch for Battlefield 2, EA has released updated Unranked server files for Win32 and Linux, which contain all the files you need to host a dedicated server, including all 12 maps.
