SCEA announced details of its v2.40 PS3 system software update, which will deliver XMB access in-game, enabling PS3 users to connect and communicate with other gamers seamlessly while playing most games. PS3 users will also be able to earn Trophies enabling them to tout their accomplishments via profiles, and compare their skills to other members of the community.

New reports from market research company DFC Intelligence forecasts worldwide video game industry revenue to reach $57 billion in 2009, including revenue from video game hardware and software, consoles, handhelds, PC games (including MMOs). There are currently 11 countries that have annual video game revenue in excess of $1 billion.

That EA would be making a sequel to last year's Rock Band isn't much of a surprise, EA Announced it will be available in North America in Sept., first on X360, and other platforms later. DLCs from the original will be playable in the sequel, and while the peripherals from the first outing are compatible with RB 2, there will be updated instruments available as a bundle package.

Last week, Dutch police's Team High Tech Crime arrested 20-year-old MaddoxX in Maastricht, charging him with hacking into a Valve file server and stealing credit card information from Steam Cyber Cafe users, as well as an Activision server where he downloaded and leaked an early version of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. MaddoxX first came into the news when he publicly posted credit card numbers and account balances after he had contacted Valve about their network vulnerabilities.

Battlefield: Bad Company drops gamers behind enemy lines with a squad of renegade soldiers who risk it all on a personal quest for gold and revenge.

At World Wide Invitational in Paris, Blizzard officially announced the third installment in the Diablo franchise! A short demo showed off the Barbarian & witch doctor classes, picking up God Of War like red orbs as health, busting through walls, which also does damage to enemies, co-op, customized equipment for each class, promising more quests than in previous titles, improved controls, easy access to skills through a revamped hotbar, and of course all in nice 3D.
