Earlier this week, the Internet was on fiyah when Midway Austin's creative director Harvey Smith, lead designer of Ion Storm's Deus Ex titles, publicly criticized Blacksite: Area 51, for which he was lead designer, as being "f***ed up." Smith made the controversial statement at a Montreal International Game Summit lecture, blaming poor handling and pressure to share tech to get the title out before it was ready. Studio head Denise Fulton
confirmed that the dismissal was by mutual agreement.

Earlier this week Ubisoft released a new an all-new downloadable content package (Player's Pack Black Edition) on Xbox Live, adding 5 new multiplayer maps, charging the usual rate (800 Microsoft points/$10). Shortly thereafter the download mysteriously disappeared, and today Ubisoft stated that the content was supposed to have been free, and is offering everybody a refund, although it was not specified if it was a monetary or through points. To make up for the debacle Ubisoft will now also make the previous Red pack free of charge.

Black Box or Orange Box — it has always been somewhat confusing. One edition included Half-Life 2 Ep. 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2, while the other added the original H-L 2, and Ep. 1 to the mix. Valve decided to
cancel the Black Box version, and instead only have the Orange Box with all of the content. The PC edition will include codes to download through Steam, so if you already have one of the titles, you can simply give the codes away to a friend.
