While the industry has been beating expectations the past few quarters, EA had less good news today. Net revenue was down 4%, gross profit down 5%, net loss increased, and net income was also down for the quarter, although on an annual basis, net revenue was up, primarily driven by the EA Sports lineup (mainly Madden), Need for Speed Carbon, and The Sims. During the subsequent conf. call EA CEO John Riccitiello revealed that Will Wright's larger-than-life title won't see the light of day until early 2008.

Earlier today Civ fansite
Apolyton revealed that Civilization III and Civ IV designer Soren Johnson had left Firaxis, and teamed up with EA, which he left in 2000 to join up with aforementioned Sid Meiers studio. EA confirmed the rumor and let us know that Soren has indeed joined the Maxis team, currently developing Will Wright's (r)evolutionary title Spore.

In a recent
interview with GameSpy, EA Maxis frontman Will Wright revealed that his upcoming Spore product is not only coming to PC, but currently also in development for PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii. A little while back a job listing popped up to fill a
design position, specifically to work on Spore for handhelds, which might indicate that NDS and PSP versions of Will Wright's new sim game are also in the works.

Since E3 2005 very little has been heard from Will Wright's Spore, a new sim/strategy game which will allow the player to control all aspects of life, from a cellular level al the way out of this galaxy. While the initial revealing only indicated Spore would be coming to PC, a recent
job list on GameDev.net indicates EA's plans to bring the title to yet undefined handheld platforms, "the Spore team is looking for an experienced designer that will be responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining game systems and content for SPORE Handheld titles."
An ichorous green meteor plummets through the Earth's atmosphere, fracturing and showering the earth with glowing green space dust that affects all forms of life nearby.
