Gore Verbinski has long expressed his interest in doing the Bioshock movie, revealed a while back, but apparently he believes so much in the project that the Pirates of the Caribbean director has turned down Walt Disney Pictures to work on the 4th installment in the series. The film adaptation of 2K's action game will begin production in 2010, and Universal Pictures has tasked John Logan (The Aviator, Star Trek: Nemesis) to write the screenplay, while BioShock creator Ken Levine is consulting.

A proposed bill being voted on this week by the European Union would give governments authorization to deem certain software illegal to be used on the internet. The new anti-piracy rules would put in effect a Europe-wide three strikes law, giving three warning to people suspected of sharing copyrighted files, eventually banning offenders from accessing the internet. Australian screenwriter Stuart Beattie, known for writing Pirates of the Caribbean, Collateral and most recently G.I. Joe and Gears of War movies, turns out to be a big Halo fan, and, according to Latino Review has penned a spec screenplay based on Eric Nylund's movel Halo: The Fall of Reach in an attempt to revive the project after movie studios Universal Studios and Fox backed out of the deal with Peter Jackson and Microsoft. A spec screenplay means "speculative," a term used for somebody writing a script on hisr own behalf, without payment.
