NEC Interchannel, Ltd. today announced it is shipping Tube Slider, a fast and furious racing game developed exclusively for the Nintendo GameCube to retailers across North America. Tube Slider is developed by NDCUBE, creators of the critically acclaimed F-Zero: Maximum Overdrive for the Game Boy Advance. The game's vehicles were designed by Studio 4C, the animation studio behind the anime classic, Akira.

Nintendo has cut the royalty rates on GameCube software in a move aimed at encouraging third-party publishers to bring key titles to the platform, and will focus more heavily on third-party software at E3. The company, which last week announced that it had missed its 2002 shipment targets for the Cube by a massive 44 per cent, selling only 5.6 million units, admitted that major third-party titles such as Grand Theft Auto were completely overshadowing its own major franchises such as Mario and Metroid.

Reuters reports that Nintendo Co Ltd creator of the "Pokemon" video game series, said on Thursday its shipments of GameCube home consoles in 2002/03 were likely to fall more than 10 percent short of its target of 10 million units.. Satoru Iwata, Nintendo's president, told Reuters in an interview that the gamemaker expected shipments of GameCube software in the 2002/03 business year to March to come in below its 55 million unit target, but he declined to give a figure.. He also said the company was developing a next-generation home videogame console. Nintendo is looking at the possibility of launching it in 2005 or 2006, he said.. Rival console makers are expected to release next-generation systems around that time.

Capcom Entertainment announce four Nintendo GameCube titles, Dead Phoenix, Killer 7, P.N.03 and Resident Evil 4 each promising to take interactive entertainment to a whole new level. This impressive line up of games will have players exploring the far reaches of the sky, fighting futuristic enemy mechs, assuming the role of an assassin with seven different personas, and investigating the origin of the progenitor virus. P.N.03 is scheduled to release this summer, Dead Phoenix this fall, Killer 7 in 2004, and the release date for Resident Evil 4 is TBD. Samus first stopped the evil Space Pirates and Mother Brain from amassing an army of Metroids on the planet Zebes. CNN Money reports that we can expect another round of price cuts before mid-year, most likely right around the same time as the Electronic Entertainment Expo, the gaming industry's annual trade show. Most execs are predicting another $50 reduction, taking the Xbox and PS2 to $149 and the GameCube to $99. While unlikely, they acknowledge it's not inconceivable that PS2 and Xbox prices could fall to $99 (and, by default, the GameCube would slip to $50).
