Ubisoft today announced that Heroes of Might and Magic V has gone gold and is scheduled for release in North America on May 23, 2006. Developed by Nival Interactive (Blitzkrieg, Silent Storm, Etherlords), HoMM5 will be available in both standard and limited editions and will ship with a rating of "T" (Teen).

It seems Starforce may be losing one of its biggest supporters, as
Ubisoft announced today that Nival's upcoming RPG Heroes of Might & Magic V will not have the controversial, and much disliked, Starforce copy protection, instead Ubisoft opted to use "an alternative protection." If this means the longtime Starforce supporter is shying away from using it in general or just a one time experiment is not disclosed.

Ubisoft today announced a Heroes of Might and Magic V limited edition, which will not only include a soundtrack, HOMM 5 on DVD, screens, official artwork and illustrations, exclusive maps and a unique hero, but also full versions of HoM&M III and IV. Yesterday many RPG fans got disappointed when the Heroes of Might & Magic 5 open beta which was set to launch, didn't. Ubisoft wanted to "make the experience as smooth as possible for all those involved." A new day new hope it seems, as one of Ubisoft's community managers announced today that "The open beta will start this Monday at 6PM UK time."
