PlayStation Store Gets 'PAIN', 'Shivering Iles' and Downloadable Content

Sony has rolled out its weekly PlayStation Store update with tons of new material. Just like on XBL, Harmonix has released the David Bowie songpack ($5.49 or $1.99/song) while Activision's Guitar Hero III: Boss Battles Track Pack is free. Motorstorm gets new vehicles and skins ($1.99), while Resistance: Fall of Man gets its second Map Pack (two new maps, each of which is playable in all sizes and all modes for $4.99). On top of that SCEA released the full game PAIN ($9.99) , and Bethesda made Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles downloadable ($29.99).

Konami Assistant Producer Ryan Payton claims Metal Gear Solid 4 needs to sell over a million copies on the first day it goes on sale in order to recoup its costly production, but that MGS 4 might be last in a dying breed on console exclusives. Cost for triple A next-gen titles range between $10-$50 million, so publishers are increasingly going multi-platform to make sure they at least break even. ony currently has 15 internal development studios, more than Microsoft and Nintendo combined.
