As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

by Judy on Nov. 6, 2006 @ 12:03 p.m. PST

Another day, another batch of games shipped to stores. Instead of giving them all their own posts, we grouped them, and so far there are announcements for:

Blitz: The League (X360)

Blitz: The league is back and better than ever starring the new bad boy on the block, Bill Romanowski, as linebacker Bruno Batagglia. Step onto the field with more customization options than ever before, with new players, cities, and logos which will help you to create what could be the greatest franchise in League history. Take your team online and dominate your opponents using new offensive and defensive evasion moves, or try and defeat the three new division All-Star teams stacked with the best talent on the field. Get ready for another dramatic season of Blitz and experience The League like never before.

Romanowski, a four-time Super Bowl champion and arguably one of the most feared linebackers to play the game, joins Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor as co-cover athlete of Blitz: The League for the Xbox 360 which delivers a host of new features, including new cities, All-Star teams, and achievement points.

"With over a million games sold on current generation systems, Blitz: The League proved to the industry that fans desire an alternative in the licensor censored, watered-down sports genre," said Steve Allison, chief marketing officer, Midway. "We're excited to now offer that alternative title on the Xbox 360, complete with the award-winning quality of gameplay and entertainment Blitz: The League is recognized as having."

Elite Beat Agents (NDS)

Nintendo's Elite Beat Agents are international men of mystery, but the only licenses they carry are licenses to boogie. This Nintendo DS game is all about the music with a branching storyline: The more accurately players can tap to rhythmic pop music patterns on the touch screen, the better the story turns out. It's a crazy mix of music, dancing and madness that has already received rave reviews -- and it's available in North America on Nov. 8.

Coupled with a collection of quirky story lines and hilarious characters, Elite Beat Agents boasts a number of popular tunes, including "Rock This Town," "Walkie Talkie Man," "Material Girl," "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and more. Playable on the Nintendo DS, this unique mix of rhythm and dance offers music fans the chance to get their groove on no matter where they are. It's a head-bopping, toe-tapping phenomenon made portable just in time for the holidays.

"Elite Beat Agents is a fantastic addition to our holiday lineup," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "It offers a one-of-a-kind game experience that appeals to everyone, from first-time players to hard-core gamers, making it an ideal fit for our Touch Generations brand, which includes games and experiences that anyone can easily pick up and play."

Elite Beat Agents follows the riotous exploits of three secret agents who help people overcome everyday problems by infusing their targets with "groovy" energy. Whether the mission is to help a lost dog find his way home or aid a babysitter in charming a hunky football player, people of all ages will be lured in by the game's fun and amusing story lines. After all, who wouldn't want the chance to save the day? So, get out your DS Lite because ... "AGENTS ARE GO!"

Guitar Hero II (PS2)

Guitar Hero II for the PlayStation 2 will be available on November 7. To help celebrate the highly-anticipated launch, RedOctane is hosting an exclusive autograph signing tonight with Dave Navarro, renowned guitarist for popular rock band Jane's Addiction, at Best Buy's West Los Angeles location on Pico Boulevard and Sawtelle. Guitar Hero II demo kiosks will be on hand for fans to participate in the rock experience, and at the stroke of midnight, Guitar Hero II will be available for purchase. Further, Billy Morrison, bassist for The Cult, will be onsite with the popular radio station, Indie 103.1 FM, to broadcast live from the event. While pre-orders are selling out at a record pace in retail and online stores, Guitar Hero II is destined to become an instant classic for all rock n' roll and videogame enthusiasts worldwide.

Guitar Hero II, the sequel to the critically-acclaimed Guitar Hero, features a brand new and expanded track list of over 60 songs, along with more rock venues, characters, guitars, and play modes. Guitar Hero II also introduces an innovative co-op mode that will encourage a greater rock band experience by providing the ability to either play the lead, and bass or rhythm guitar tracks.

"We're bringing rock n' roll back to the masses, and Guitar Hero is helping to introduce a new generation of fans to many of the greatest rock songs of all-time," said Dusty Welch, head of publishing at RedOctane. "With fresh new content and features in Guitar Hero II, players will surely be able to fulfill their ultimate Rock Star fantasy!"

Guitar Hero rocked the videogame industry last year, and garnered a stack of awards including: "Best Offline Multiplayer Game 2005" and "Music Game of the Year 2005" from IGN.com, "Best Soundtrack 2005" at the Spike TV Videogames Awards and five D.I.C.E. awards, including Outstanding Innovation in Gaming and Family Game of the Year.

A limited edition Guitar Hero II t-shirt is now available for consumers that pre-order the game through RedOctane's online store: www.redoctane.com/store.html. Guitar Hero II is rated "T" (Teen) by the ESRB and carries a suggested retail price of $79.99.

RoboBlitz (PC)

RoboBlitz is a humorous single-player action, platformer full of inventive gizmos, weapons and characters. Players take on the role of Blitz, a multi-talented robot who must activate an aging space cannon to save his world from a band of maladjusted space pirates. Set in seven distinct environments, RoboBlitz features 19 levels of puzzle-solving and high-intensity action.

The unique, physics-driven gameplay in RoboBlitz empowers players to use creative solutions in a world rife with emergent behaviors.

"In the past, games have been limited to hand-animation driven gameplay where the players' actions are bound by the designer's own imagination. With physics, the only limitations are rules based on the game world," said Joshua Glazer, Chief Technology Officer, Naked Sky Entertainment, Inc. "In our game, almost every puzzle can be solved in multiple ways. If the player comes up with a solution for which we didn't plan, it will still work because everything is driven by physics."

To support the modding community, the PC release will include the same custom build of the Unreal Engine 3 Editor that the Naked Sky team uses in-house.

RoboBlitz will be available in 8 languages: English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. RoboBlitz is rated E10+ (Everyone Ages 10+) by the ESRB.

Cars (X360)

Today's release of Disney*Pixar's Cars for the Xbox 360 follows the launch of this past summer's blockbuster cross-platform launch for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, PSP, PC and Mac. The Xbox 360 version is now available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $49.99, releasing in conjunction with the Cars holiday DVD launch on November 7.

"With the Cars video game having already shipped more than four million units worldwide, we're excited to make the leap to the next-generation systems in order to offer more gamers a way to experience this popular interactive racing adventure," said John Ardell, director of global brand marketing, THQ. "Our record sales numbers to date are a tremendous achievement; Cars is on-track to become the top selling kids game of 2006."

Cars is also scheduled to release for Nintendo's highly anticipated Nintendo Wii on November 13.
