Within Temptation will perform songs that will be released exclusively in a worldwide virtual event set in the world of the upcoming online PC game The Chronicles of Spellborn. This is the first time in history a platinum-selling rock band and the developers of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) have announced such collaboration, marking a new era in the fusion of the arts of music and making games.

"Almost all of the band members are fanatic gamers. At home and on tour we play fantasy-orientated games to relax and sometimes even to get new inspiration." Robert Westerholt, Within Temptation's guitarist said, "When we heard about The Chronicles of Spellborn and the fact that it was developed in The Netherlands, we were eager to contribute and write some exclusive tracks."

"Many of our game developers are huge fans of Within Temptation's haunting and beautiful music. When the chance came to collaborate to this extent, we were extremely enthusiastic." It was a natural extension that we wanted to pioneer new ways that music and gaming interact. Founded in 1996 by guitarist Robert Westerholt and vocalist Sharon den Adel, Within Temptation provides a compelling mix of symphonic rock, haunting Celtic melodies and powerful vocals. The band has released four albums in the past nine years and has toured worldwide.

The band has won the prestigious Conamus Music Export Prize (awarded to the best-selling Dutch band outside of the Netherlands) for the last three years in a row, has been awarded the Dutch "Pop Prize" (given to the Dutch group which has contributed the most to popular music), an "Edison" award (the Dutch equivalent of an American "Grammy"), and a "World Music Award", among others. They have chart-topping gold and platinum albums as well as top ten hits in several European countries. To date, Within Temptation has sold over one million copies of their albums and DVDs worldwide.
