'Lightstep Chronicles' Announced, Coming Soon, Playable Demo - Screens

by Rainier on July 11, 2019 @ 2:40 p.m. PDT

Lightstep Chronicles is a narrative adventure set in a Sci-Fi setting that follows Captain Cain Phoenix as he gets trapped inside an alien vessel by an AI with a split personality disorder.

To rescue his crew and himself from this situation, he will need to resort to his communication and negotiation skills, which will give him access to various parts of the ship and its features.

Game is set in the Lightstep universe - the same one created in "Lightstep Chronicles" comic book series of the same name successfully kickstarted by Imagine Incredibles and published by the Dark Horse Comics. While the game's story is entirely standalone, the player will get a better understanding of some references if they read the comics. Since the comics are designed with art deco aesthetics in mind, it was only natural to incorporate them within the game. The game-dev team mixed visuals from comics, with a familiar sci-fi setting and the result is in the game.

Lightstep Chronicles is inspired by classic text-based adventures and modern games like Subsurface Circular.

"We didn't want to make a game where reading the comics is a must. We are taking the elements that we find suitable for our story, and put our spin on it. The result is something that would honor the comics while being completely distinctive in the tone from them." said Ivan Kesic, game's producer.

To get a better sense of the game’s story and its direction, you can try the free demo.

Lightstep Chronicles is coming to PC (Steam) on august 1, 2019.
