Boundary is a multiplayer tactical space-based shooter puts players in the role of a heavily armed astronaut in space engaging in fierce zero gravity firefights and executing low-gravity operations on orbiting space installations against enemy astronauts and other entities.

Space has provided a new frontier for man to explore and populate as the Earth reaches capacity and natural resources dwindle. The invention of space-elevators make getting up to orbiting facilities both affordable and convenient in this not-too-distant future. Along with this new exploration and life in space, a new breed of scum and villainy emerges as governments, mercenaries, pirates and outlaws are hell bent on plundering the universe of valuable goods to sell on the black market or keep for themselves.

A new breed of criminal enterprise means a new breed of galactic enforcement is required, so specially trained tactical astronauts take the fight to the harsh extremes of space in order to intercept hijackers and criminals with lethal force in interdiction missions.

In Boundary, players will become Astroperators fighting intense 5v5 matches in the zero-gravity of space. Navigating flying debris in the vast expanse of space and detecting enemy assaults from all angles await players in Boundary. At launch, Boundary will include four multiplayer modes including Team Deathmatch, Facility capture, Orbital purge, Skirmish. As an FPS game, the fast and agile shooter will focus on 5v5 and 3v3 matches where fierce zero gravity firefights will take place in 8 different multiplayer maps.

Surgical Scalpels revealed how they are harnessing the power of real-time ray tracing for its near-future multiplayer shooter Boundary with its Ray Tracing Benchmark (available Sept. 24, 2020).

With the team’s aspirations to provide the best in-game resolution and visual perception in an environment where physics, lighting and surface reflections require different texture effects, developer Surgical Scalpels has embraced the power of real-time ray tracing to bring a more ‘visual edge’ to the game.

Boundary’s realistic space environments feature complex space structures and orbiting facilities for players to navigate around, some of which utilize large reflective surfaces such as solar panels and glass. The benchmark facilitates ray traced reflections on opaque and translucent surfaces. Boundary’s ray tracing benchmark improves real-time, cinematic-quality rendering, further enhancing things like shadows and ambient occlusion which dictates how both direct and indirect light react with different surfaces and textures from astro-operators space suits to a highly reflective solar panel or helmet visor.

Players looking to have the ultimate experience of ray tracing can enter to win an RTX 3080 via the Steam wishlist giveaway here.

Blending elements of MOBA and FPS gameplay, the title will launch with four action-packed game modes; Facility Capture, Team Death Match, Skirmish Mode, and Orbital Capture. Facility Capture mode will pit two teams of five players against each other in strategic combat. Astroperators will have 15 minutes to exert their dominance by gaining control of key objective areas to earn points while also thwarting the enemy team from capturing.

Deadly accuracy and nimble maneuvers will reign supreme as bullets fly from all directions, in the time compact Team Death Match mode. In traditional death match fashion, players will earn points by eliminating members of the enemy team. Players will contend with threats from all sides and a variety of ammunition creating a stunningly tactical firefight that is anything but traditional. Alongside the Facility Capture and Team Death Match modes, will be the unpredictable Skirmish mode, which challenges players to quickly adapt when given random loadouts and Orbital Capture, a single-elimination mode, favoring calculated tactics and risk assessment.

No matter the mode players decide to jump into, they’ll have six diverse characters to choose from to wade into special combat.

  • Leeway - A deadly accurate sniper, Leeway utilizes an auxiliary arm for steady aim, and the ability to minimize recoil for a short time.
  • Vodka - A rifle-toting damage dealer that offers a balanced kit featuring skills to temporarily improve his combat abilities and a grappling hook to tear him through enemy defenses at a blink.
  • Spiker - Nimble and an ace of stealth, Spiker is able to launch deadly melee attacks and turn off electrical devices.
  • Fixer - Capable of turning the tide of battle with her drones, Fixer is able to automatically repair nearby allies and in certain modes, is able to bring teammates back to life remotely.
  • Shielder - An imposing presence on the battlefield, the most heavily armored Astroperator is equipped with a machine gun and ballistic shield.
  • Probe - Searching for every tactical advantage, Probe is a specialist at gathering information. Tracking missiles and detectors capable of locking down enemy signals round out Probe’s kit.

With a whole host of customization options for players to choose from, Boundary aims to provide a tailor made approach to loadouts, space suits and tactical space warfare. Weapons range from machine pistols to converted assault rifles and more powerful sniper rifles, all of which utilize a modular upgrade system to mix and match at the player’s preference. Players can also customize individual weapons using a huge range of available components including optical sights, muzzles, stocks, barrels and foregrips.

Players will have six classes to choose from in Boundary and a wide range of fully customizable space weaponry. Players will have full tactical control over their weapon magazines in Boundary, being able to utilize different types of ammunition and create customized magazine configurations. Alternating armor penetrating rounds and electromagnetic pulse rounds, to pierce through enemy space suits and scramble their equipment is just one of many lethal combinations Astroperators can create.

Helping players maneuver through space will be their EMU suit. Players can modify EMU suits by adding offensive measures and defensive weapons as well as choosing between light, medium, and heavy packs. From their class to weapons, ammunition and EMUs players will be able to create tailor-made loadouts in Boundary for ultimate control of their tactics. Equipped with external pylons, these mobility units can attach a variety of ordinance in the form of radar guided rockets, EMP grenades and defensive countermeasures.

Ammunition types also have a tactical role to play in Boundary, and players can configure a mixture of ammunition types in their weapons. Lethality can be increased by mixing armor piercing rounds with explosive rounds and EMP rounds, causing catastrophic damage and affecting an enemy’s ability to respond.

Key Features:

  • Intense zero-gravity FPS combat.
  • Multiple game modes Team Deathmatch, Facility capture, Orbital purge, Skirmish.
  • Varied and realistic-inspired maps including the solar farm, orbital fuel station, circular complex, a spacecraft debris field, and more.
