'Fortnite' (ALL) Returns To DreamHack Open Tournament Series

by Rainier on April 26, 2021 @ 8:42 a.m. PDT

Fortnite is an expansive original world that invites players to be creative, resourceful and collaborative, combining building skills and destructible environments with intense PvP combat.

In Fortnite, players and their friends lead a group of Heroes to reclaim and rebuild a homeland that has been left empty by a mysterious darkness only known as “the Storm.”

Players will band together online to explore the world for resources, build extravagant forts, find or build insane weapons and traps as they protect their towns from the strange monsters that emerge during the Storm.

Fortnite Battle Royale is the FREE 100-player PvP mode in Fortnite. One giant map. A battle bus.

The last one standing wins.

DreamHack, a part of ESL Gaming, today announced the popular DreamHack Open Featuring Fortnite tournament series, which included millions of players in 2020, will continue in 2021 (duos). In addition, fans can look forward to the ”best of the best” (trios) Cash Cup Extra Presented by DreamHack. Both Fortnite initiatives will total a prize pool of more than USD $900,000 in 2021.

Each season of Fortnite’s competitive calendar — spring, summer and fall — will feature a DreamHack Open with a prize pool of USD $200k each. The first DreamHack Open Featuring Fortnite will begin in May with each duos tournaments to be broadcast live on Twitch. Players are able to join the tournament in the Compete section of Fortnite. No signup required. Dates will be announced soon.

There will be a total of 18 events in 2021 with a prize pool totaling more than USD $17k per event — these will be spread across the spring, summer and fall seasons, each featuring six events (three NA East; three EU). Fortnite has added invitational events where top players from the European (EU) and North American (NA) East Trios Cash Cups can advance to the Cash Cup Extra Presented by DreamHack tournaments — the first and the second event were a great success (April 15 and 21); the third edition will kick-off on May 12. Cash Cup Extra Presented by DreamHack is a merit-based event featuring top performing players that week, and also offers teams who compete in the Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) another opportunity to work on their chemistry.

We had an incredible experience hosting the online DreamHack Open Featuring Fortnite in 2020, and are very excited to again partner with Fortnite operator Epic Games to offer another year of Fortnite events for our community,” said Viktor Rydbäck, VP Product Management at ESL Gaming. “To strengthen our connection and involvement in the Fortnite competitive ecosystem is a tremendous opportunity.”

Following the popular debut of DreamHack Open Featuring Fortnite tournaments in 2020, this year’s events will continue to be community-focused while paired with a live, online broadcast via Twitch. Fans can expect professional commentary, as well as high-level, in-game observing produced by DreamHack’s experienced team of professionals.

Fortnite players will be able to participate in DreamHack Open Featuring Fortnite on the EU and NA East and West servers as the competition is open for all and not invite based. Cash Cup Extra requires players to compete in the Fortnite Trios Cash Cup to earn an invite to play. More information is available on the DreamHack website HERE. Additional details will be announced.

Fortnite is currently available for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Android and iOS.
