'Apex Legends' Reveals More Defiance Update Details, Shows Ganeplay - Trailer

by Rainier on Jan. 31, 2022 @ 12:17 p.m. PST

Set in the Titanfall universe, Apex Legends is a free to play battle royale game with a cast of unique characters, squad-based gameplay, innovative mechanics and more.

Apex Legends delivers a squad-based battle royale experience with a uniquely Respawn flavor. Players will select from one of eight Legends - each with their own unique abilities and playstyles - and the last team standing wins. Combatants can choose from unique characters like Bloodhound, the tracker who can see recent enemy activity on the map, or Lifeline, a battlefield medic who can shield teammates and bring them back from the brink of death. Balanced squads and teamwork are critical, as each Legend is easy to pick up and learn, but challenging to master.

Apex Legends showcases several new genre-leading innovations, starting before players even start the match. Once players are ready to begin, they’ll choose their drop point with the Jumpmaster system, giving each squad full control over exactly where they drop in. Is it smarter to head straight for the most valuable loot and risk early conflict with other teams, or make for one of the outlying areas to plot an attack and let other squads pick each other off?

EA and Respawn Entertainment unleashed a brand new trailer announcing Apex Legends: Defiance, the latest major update to the hero shooter which will be launching worldwide on February 8, 2022.

For all her crimes, Mad Maggie's been condemned to fight to the death in the Games. But just who's being punished here?

Mad Maggie enters the Arena like a wrecking ball, giving players their first look at the newest Legend in action. A cutthroat punk-rock warlord and the Outlands’ meanest mad-lass, Mad Maggie is already familiar to fans from her (former) friendship with Fuse as well as her previous takeovers of the Apex Games. After a speedy and fair trial, war criminal, and a cutthroat punk-rock warlord, Mad Maggie has been sentenced to die in Apex Legends. What she lacks in empathy and basic human decency, she makes up for in stubbornness and raw ferocity. While her impotent rage is delaying the inevitable, it’s sure to keep us all entertained.

The new limited time Mode Control, available for the first three weeks of Defiance, gives players an entirely new way to enjoy Apex Legends. Delivering an adrenaline-fueled 9v9 battle, Control gives two teams the chance to fight to capture and control points on the map. Teamwork is imperative for a win as the mode features the largest teams to date and requires Legends to find new ways to get the best out of their squads.

A dastardly sneak-attack orchestrated by new Legend Mad Maggie has wreaked havoc on Olympus, teleporting objects and buildings across the city. As Mad Maggie’s sabotage has upended the natural order, Legends will need to adapt to their new surroundings to have any hope of surviving.

Thanks to bold new leadership, the Apex Games will be more exciting than ever! With the new Battle Pass Legends will have the opportunity to express themselves to their heart’s content with new cosmetics, music packs, loading screens, emotes and much more.

For the first three weeks of Defiance, Legends can join in on Apex Legends third anniversary celebrations by claiming login rewards including Legend unlocks and more!

The innovations don’t stop there as Apex Legends also delivers Respawn Beacons, one-time use locations where defeated teammates can be revived, a contextual Ping communication system that allows players to call out enemies, weapons, locations and more with the push of a button, and an intelligent inventory system which automatically attaches gear and equipment to the appropriate weapons once players pick them up. All together it creates a battle royale experience unlike any other, complete with Respawn’s commitment to top-notch quality and fun.

Apex Legends is now available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
