'Back 4 Blood' Reveals More Expansion 1: Tunnels of Terror Details - Trailer

by Rainier on April 7, 2022 @ 6:00 a.m. PDT

Back 4 Blood is a co-operative FPS designed from the ground-up as an original, premium title and marries the best of what made Left 4 Dead so successful, with new features and state-of-the-art technology.

The Back 4 Blood story takes place after a catastrophic outbreak where most of humanity has either been killed or infected by the parasitic Devil Worm. Hardened by unspeakable events and emboldened to fight for the last of humanity, a group of apocalypse veterans called the Cleaners have rallied to take on the infected horrors known as the Ridden and reclaim the world. Back 4 Blood features thrilling, dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay and highly variable, customizable action to keep players coming back for more.

Back 4 Blood includes a four-player cooperative story campaign in which the Cleaners must fight the Ridden and work together to survive increasingly challenging missions. Players can team-up online with drop-in and drop-out co-op to fight the ever-evolving Ridden threat together or play the campaign solo with three AI teammates. The game also features competitive multiplayer in which participants can play with or against friends in online PvP that supports up to eight players and teams take turns playing as both the Cleaners and the horrific Ridden.

Back 4 Blood can be played online with a squad of four players or solo with up to three AI teammates. The game will also support up to eight players in online PvP (person versus person) multiplayer.

Warner Bros. Games and Turtle Rock Studios today revealed the launch trailer for Back 4 Blood – Expansion 1: Tunnels of Terror showing off the all-new action coming to the first-person co-op zombie shooter as part of the game’s first major downloadable content (DLC), set to release on April 12, 2022.

The trailer introduces two new playable Cleaners debuting in this expansion – Sharice, an axe-wielding firefighter known for her defensive prowess, and Heng, a tough as nails, no-nonsense restaurateur skilled at slaying Ridden with his knife.

The video provides a detailed look at the new Ridden Hives PvE cooperative activity, where teams of up to four players can explore the cavernous depths of seven Ridden infested areas full of labyrinthine tunnels below Evansburgh. To earn rewards, players must outmaneuver the new Warped Ridden, including the landmine-setting Urchins, horrifying Shredders, and damage-dealing Rippers. These Ridden variations are also playable in PvP Swarm mode and can be earned, along with the new Cleaners, for use in PvP matches.

When the Back 4 Blood Tunnels of Terror expansion arrives, teams of up to four friends can jump into an all-new co-op activity known as Ridden Hives, where they will explore seven different dungeons full of labyrinthine tunnels below the depths of Evansburgh that are infested with a new Ridden type, Warped Ridden. To claim exclusive loot and rewards only offered in Ridden Hives, players must outmaneuver and overcome the daunting new Warped Ridden, including the landmine-setting Urchins, monstrous Shredders, and damage-dealing Rippers. The new Warped Ridden variants are also playable in PvP Swarm mode.

The upcoming expansion introduces two new playable Cleaners – Sharice, an axe wielding firefighter, and Heng, a tough as nails, no-nonsense restaurateur. Additionally, the Tunnels of Terror expansion will include seven new legendary weapons, eight exclusive character skins, 12 new weapon skins, new cards, and more. The expansion will also coincide with the release of the No Hope difficulty, a free update for all Back 4 Blood owners adding an extra level of challenge for elite players.

Please note, all playable content included in the expansion will be accessible by all players in a party as long as one player in that party has purchased the expansion. Additionally, there will be no microtransactions of any kind, cosmetic or otherwise, added to the game as part of this expansion or any future content update.

Tunnels of Terror will be available on April 12 as part of the Back 4 Blood: Ultimate Edition, Back 4 Blood: Deluxe Edition, Back 4 Blood Annual Pass, or via standalone purchase.

Back 4 Blood's innovative Card System is a new rogue-lite feature that enhances your experience with each playthrough, ensuring every gameplay session is dynamic, intense and feels unique.

Players can easily jump right into the action by choosing a pre-made default deck or dive into the Card System’s vast customisation options to create their own fully personalised deck of cards.

Back 4 Blood takes advantage of an adaptive A.I. known as the Game Director, which works behind-the-scenes monitoring the actions, health, and choices of players. It responds accordingly by changing environmental conditions, adding obstacles, and unleashing special Ridden mutations through Card System modifiers known as Corruption Cards. Players can change up the gameplay by utilising specific cards to strategise against the Game Director, from amplifying equipment to reloading weapons, as they take on hordes of enemies in their path.

Key Features:

  • Cooperative Story Campaign – Fight through a four-player co-op story campaign and work together to survive increasingly challenging missions. Team-up online with drop-in and drop-out co-op to fight the ever-evolving Ridden threat together or play the campaign solo with three A.I. teammates.
  • Competitive Multiplayer – Play with friends in the online PvP (player versus player) Swarm mode that supports up to eight players and complements the cooperative campaign elements with its own twist on survival horror, team-based strategy and gut-wrenching action.
