'Downward' Gets Enhanced Edition, Also Comes To Nintendo Switch, PS5 And Xbox Series X|S - Trailer

Downward is an open-world parkour/adventure game set during the Middle Ages, after the events depicted in the Book of Revelation of St. John took their course.

Around the year 1000 A.D., the arrival of three planets disrupt the Earth's equilibrium, the impotent observers recognize it as the Biblical Apocalypse.  The presence of the three planets affected tides, temperature, gravity, day/night cycle and every aspect of life on Earth. During the game, the protagonist will understand through experience how to take advantage of the three planets, to the point of mastering and controlling their movement and their influences on the world.

In Downward you will impersonate a mysterious wanderer during his pilgrimage through the East across the ancient and majestic ruins of the last civilizations of an almost uninhabited world. This journey is inspired by the wanderer's thirst for knowledge, which guides him to search for some strange artefacts, somehow linked to the End already occurred.

Having initially launched for PC (Steam) in 2017, Plug In Digital is partnering up with indie developer Caracal Games Studio to bring Downward to PC & Consoles as Downward Enhanced Edition.

It will also be available to everyone who owns the game on Steam already as a free update! Enjoy the best version of Downward, with improved graphics and new assets... Live or relive a unique experience, as this new version adds new alternative endings.

Downward is an Unreal Engine 4 powered open-world adventure centred around parkour mechanics and the macroscopic environmental changes produced by the planet's alternation in the skysphere. The game's protagonist will cross the barren lands of a Post-Biblical-Apocalyptic world in his pilgrimage to the East, visiting the ancient and majestic ruins of the past civilizations. He is searching for the mysterious artefacts that appeared with the Coming and that could have a role in explaining the End of the Earth.

Downward will show you a world no mortal eyes have ever set their sight upon, across esoteric architectures of the past and owe-inspiring landscapes. Fuelled by fear, superstition and curiosity, the ancient men's imaginary transformed the unexplored territories in a series of fantastic lands, with out-of-the-world landscapes and inhabited by the strangest monsters and creatures, which remain depicted in the beautiful Christian churches of that period. Our protagonist will emerge from this mist of reality and fiction, and his actions will have strong repercussions on the world of Downward.

The world of Downward is rich of secrets and cloaked in mystery. Exploration is at the very core of the gameplay.  In Downward, the narrative is developed in two levels: on the surface we have a basic set of events, which involve the protagonist and compose the essential storyline, necessary to enjoy the game. Instead, in side-quests and puzzles you will find a lot of deep, complex and interrelated events and informations, which complete and give sense to the lore and to all the mysteries of Downward.

Caracal Games Studio are making Downward a really old school game, both difficult and rewarding, with the aim to support the exploration with an advanced parkour system, which will help you clear all the challenges on your path and will make you enjoy every cliff.

Downward Enhanced Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam) on June 4, 2024
