'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt' Gets Remastered In September As Free Update, Also Comes To Nintendo Switch 2 - Trailer

by Rainier on Aug. 25, 2026 @ 1:39 p.m. PDT

Marking the final installment in the action RPG trilogy, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt combines decision-based storytelling flair with a living open world larger than any other in modern RPG history.

Open-world, free-roaming exploration is an adventure in itself as the player will gallop through war-ravaged lands, sail misty waters and track down dangerous beasts for money.

An improved combat system will allow players to feel like a real monster-hunter, a witcher who uses his superior senses and fighting skills to survive in a dark fantasy world--while he embarks on a quest to save his loved ones.

The new core mechanics of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt immerse the player in the experience completely, with no Quick Time Events, only intuitive RPG gameplay.

The Witcher 3 - Remastered revealed a slew of upgrades and enhancements to visuals, performance, gameplay, and more are coming to the acclaimed role-playing game. Players can experience the entire epic adventure with upgraded visuals, enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, new witcher signs effects, revamped mount handling, enhanced monster behaviors, a skill tree revamp, transmogrification, expanded photo mode, new finishers, and much more.

Remastered will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on on September 29, 2026 — plus, for the first time, a native version of the game will be released on Nintendo Switch 2, with pre-orders available now.

As an additional surprise for players, all current owners of The Witcher 3 will today gain access to its original two expansions — Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine — for free. Announced on stage by gamescom Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley, players yet to experience the critically acclaimed expansions can now do so ahead of Remastered’s launch in September.

CD PROJEKT RED is also delighted to announce a partnership with Blizzard Entertainment to bring The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered and Songs of the Past to Battle.net. Those who purchase the expansion on Blizzard’s platform will unlock a special Geralt-inspired skin in Diablo 4, with further details being shared when CD PROJEKT RED attends BlizzCon in September. More information on the partnership between Blizzard and CD PROJEKT RED can be found here.

The Witcher 3 - Remastered is being co-developed with Yigsoft, a team with a proven track record working on The Witcher 3 already.
