As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

10. 'Darksiders II' (PS3/X360/PC)

by Judy on Jan. 25, 2012 @ 12:30 a.m. PST

Darksiders II follows the exploits of Death, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, in a weaving tale that runs parallel to the events in the original Darksiders game.

Mark Buckingham: It takes someone with quite a pair on them to pull a fast one on one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. With War's story in the can, it's time to expand the universe and gameplay mechanics. The current-gen hardware is really hitting its stride, and the last game had some sharp and grisly visuals, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they have in store for chapter two.

Reggie Carolipio: The first game dipped the Book of Revelation into Joe Madureira's headspace, coloring it with an inspired vision of an unscheduled apocalypse stuffed with Zelda-ish collectables, crunchy combat, and a smart-mouthed companion voiced by Mark Hamill. It was definitely a fun jaunt into the End Times. Death is going to be my ride into the sequel, which will be fitted with more hubs, more quests, and more skills. Can't wait.

Dustin Chadwell: It's amazing, post-The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, that I can go back to the original Darksiders and find elements that still outdo Zelda in a world design in which Zelda had previously been the forerunner. Not to say that Skyward Sword wasn't an exceptional game, but there are elements that it could have cribbed from Darksiders (including world traversal), so to say that I'm looking forward to Darksiders II is a little bit of an understatement. Anyone disappointed in what Zelda has become should probably be doing the same.

Brad Hilderbrand: I considered Darksiders to be The Legend of Zelda for grown-ups, so now I can't wait to go back into that world. I'm also interested in the fact that even though this is Darksiders 2 it's not a true sequel since it's set during the same time period that War was unraveling the angelic conspiracy. Above all else, you get to play as Death himself, so how much more badass can it get than that?

Thomas Wilde: The original Darksiders managed to include at least one major gameplay feature from every single title its developers enjoyed over the course of the last decade, and it really did not care if you noticed. I have to stand up and respect that kind of gall. It's a patchwork sort of game that's way more than the sum of its parts, and I'm interested in seeing what assorted weirdness makes its way into its sequel.
