The Walt Disney Company announced it will acquire, through a subsidiary, a controlling interest in UTV, parent company of Ignition Entertainment, known for titles such as El Shaddai and Deadly Premonition.

UTV Ignition Entertainment will focus on development and publishing of a new benchmark of quality games content for current and emerging direct-to-user platforms including Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, Steam, Facebook, Google Games, and Apple touch devices.

Ignition Entertainment announced that it has entered into an agreement with Epic Games to license Unreal Engine 3 for an upcoming, groundbreaking FPS, currently under development at its Florida studio.

According to an article in the Gainesville Sun, Florida-based developer Artificial Studios, known for Monster Madness and the free AGEIA PhysX-based FPS CellFactor, has merged with UK-based Ignition Entertainment. Prior to the merger, Artificial Studios was already working on an action game for next-generation systems (thanks Firingsquad). Southpeak Interactive's PS3 version of Monster Madness is under development at Psyonix Studios.

Ignition Entertainment announced that it will be expanding its development capabilities by opening new studios, one in Tokyo (Japan) and another in Florida (USA), further developing the company’s capabilities to create original and innovative intellectual properties for the electronic entertainment industry.

Ignition Entertainment announced the March 12th, 2007 completion of its 70% controlling share acquisition by Indian entertainment giant, UTV Software Communication. Ignition is currently in negotiations with a number of leading development teams across all formats with an objective to bolster its release schedule for 2007/08.
