A dispute between Microsoft and Alcatel-Lucent over an MP3 audio technology patent issues relating to Windows has just turned ugly. A federal jury in San Diego has ordered Microsoft to pay $1.5 billion to Alcatel-Lucent, which might be emboldened by the outcome and file additional claims against other companies. Microsoft, who claims it rightfully licensed the technology from Fraunhofer, will seek relief or appeal.
Blizzard Files Lawsuit Against WoW Glider

WoW Glider is a 3rd party tool that lets players control their in-game character without being logged in. It will have your character go out and gain skills hunting monsters, and it allows you to loot them. Believing that WoW Glider infringes on their IP, Blizzard and Vivendi have filed a lawsuit against MDY Industries and its creator Michael Donnelly in the state of Arizona, seeking injunctive relief and monetary damages (thanks LadyAlex).

Hot on the heels of the Rule of Rose debacle, and recent high school shooting, EU Justice and Security Commissioner Franco Frattini said the 27-nation bloc's executive body wants to harmonise the rules restricting the sale of violent video games to children under 16.

Earlier today Nintendo announced a replacement program for the defective Wii remote wrist straps and now we may know the REAL reason why. On December 6th, three lawfirms filed a nationwide class action lawsuit in federal district court in Seattle, Washington, against Nintendo of America, requesting that the defective parts be replaced.

Louisiana governor Kathleen Blanco has signed bill HB1381, drafted with help from anti-video game activist Jack Thompson, into law, prohibiting the sale or rental of games with violent content to minor by retailers. Electronic Arts today announced a settlement on overtime wages for current and former programmers of its California studios. Los Angeles city attorney's office has sued the makers of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for allegedly hiding pornographic material inside the video game, officials said. Rocky Delgadillo said his office sued Rockstar Games and its parent company Take-Two for making misleading statements in marketing the game and engaging in unfair competition.
