While Battlefield 2: Special Forces has barely been announced and is not yet available, European online retail store
World of Games seems to reveal that there is already a second addon for DICE's online shooter in the works. While
the product listing does not have any specific details, or even a product name apart from Battlefield 2 Addon 2, it does however list the new addon as scheduled for March 2006. Truth or not, time will tell....

Earlier today people reported that certain individuals managed to hack into EA's Battlefield 2 stats server and as a result unlocked all weapons for friends & family. EA responded "All of the changes made will be rolled back in the next couple hours. Users may have to rechoose any unlocks they would have legitimately made in the last day or so as a result of the roll-back, but no stats should be lost."

EA revealed today that DICE is pluggin away at yet another patch for Battlefield 2, and it is expected to be released late August. Currently there are about 140 fixes and improvements for the next patch, but EA wants to make sure the previous patch snafu doesnt occur again and will make sure its goes through vigorous testing before it goes out. EA has released the highly anticipated first patch for DICE's Battlefield 2. This patch brings your retail game to v1.02 (eventhough it still says v1.01) and addresses the previous memory leak, an issue that caused the multiplayer browser to become unresponsive, some game controls were not available to be rebound within the Options menu, fixed a crash with rebinding LMB, AI becoming unresponsive, and a few graphical tweaks. While Battlefield 2 is currently being plagued by user login issues, GameSpy are being investigating the matter, but as a result external stats tracking may be temporarily disabled. EA has also announced that a HOTFIX candidate for Battlefield 2 v1.01 is currently in testing, which the fix for the memory leak found in v1.01 is being tested and will soon be available. Not a big surprise considering its retail success, through an
interview with IGN, EA revealed that its DICE development studio is working on an expansion pack for its recently released multiplayer FPS sequel Battlefield 2. While the original game is being fought out between regular grunts, BF2: Special Forces will beef up all the classes to Special Forces and add 7-8 new night/day maps (smaller troop oriented, urban environment, airport map, missile launch facility etc.), gadgets (night vision and grappler/zipline, flashbang, tear gas), six new armies (Navy Seals, British SAS, Russian Spetznaz, MEC Special Forces and two insurgent groups), ten new vehicles, and twelve new base weapons. Battlefield 2: Special Forces is expected Fall of 2005.

"Since the BF2 v1.01 update is causing memory leakage on some systems, we recommend that you reinstall the game and NOT the v1.01 update released earlier this week. Reinstalling Battlefield 2 will not affect your in-game medals or ranked server statistics. Be advised that servers that are caught allowing users to play with the unlock weapons using the python workaround will incur a one week ban from the server list. Read more for download links ...

EA revealed that it quietly has been working on the first Battlefield 2 patch, and it is expected to be released somewhere next week. Every fix in this v1.01 update is a result of Community feedback on the demo and retail game release. A few of the items being worked on are : issues that caused the Multiplayer Browser to become unresponsive, an issue where some game controls were not available to be rebound within the Options menu, and fixed a crash with rebinding LMB. An open Beta of the Battlefield 2 Editor will be released some time in July, and the linux server is almost finished as wel. Of course we will have all of those available on
our fileserver network as soon as they are released.

community update earlier today EA and DICE disappointed plenty of people in the mod community when they announced that the first Beta version of the Battlefield 2 Editor will not be released as scheduled. Due to some unresolved issues the Open Beta Editor has been postponed until the end of June.
