As an added bonus, Veterans get an exclusive in-game indicator, an immediate promotion, and a new verbal taunt to use in Battlefield 2.

The Battlefield 2 v1.4 patch files that were scheduled for general release today have been resubmitted for another review and as such will not be released today. The review of these files will be a 24-hour period, and expect to receive an email tomorrow with details on how DICE want to proceed.

As promised EA has released some minor information about the upcoming BF 2 v1.4 patch. After rigorous beta testing and community input, EA announced that the new patch will be released on Tuesday August 15, and will include the Road to Jalalabad, as well as the new Infantry Only server option. While it isn't really an official announcement, the latest Battlefield newsletter reveals that, if it stays on schedule, DICE's newest Battlefield 2142 is currently slated for release October 2006. A forum post on Swedish fansite BF2.se reveals what looks to be a new Battlefield 2 map in the works over at DICE/EA. Game-Monitor.com noticed a new Road to Jalalabad map being tested (MEC vs. US), as well as a curious game setting bf2_infantryonly, which seems to indicate a new Infantry only setting/mode might be getting added to DICE's online FPS.

In a short interview with a BF 2142 fansite, DICE revealed that in order to learn about large scale issues, i.e. when 10 000’s of people playing at the same time, it plans to have a Battlefield 2142 open beta hoping to eliminate some of the problems EA encountered after previous launches.
