EA's AJ Marini made a little announcement: "We have some great news for you regarding the upcoming patch. 1.2 is in the final stages of its release cycle. This means you need to keep an eye on this web space for further info and a release date. I want to extend a huge thanks to our community for helping us grasp the issues that have made your gameplay less than optimal at times. We are very happy with the improvements in this patch and sincerely hope you are all pleased with the work we’ve done."

EA today revealed that we will have to wait a week or 2-3 longer for the BF2 v1.2 patch, caused by some community concerns which had to be addressed first. The delay unfortunately also results in the Euro Force booster pack being pushed back to mid/end February. Good news is that the the Red/Blue nametag bug has been addressed, as well as increased distance for hand grenades, ammo packs, and health packs, turrets will no longer pass through walls, and and last but not least tank/grenade launcher projectiles will less frequently vanish during online play.

Both EBGames and GameStop today adding product listings for a yet unannounced Battlefield 2: Deluxe Edition product. No details are provided but the Battlefield franchise is not unfamiliar with bundles as has been proven in the past. BF2 Deluxe Edition most likely combines the original Battlefield 2 and its recently released Special Forces expansion pack, all patched up to the latest version (maybe even the new v1.3). Both online retailers seem to differ regarding release date as EBGames has it pegged down for end of March, while GameSpot lists May.

EA has once more revealed new additions to the upcoming Battlefield 2 v1.2 patch, in particular the fact that UAVs will now visible in the world so if you are being scanned, you can know about it and take action against it, officer ranks will become available to everybody, and a bug that allowed players in vehicles to contest a flag from outside the flag radius is now fixed.

In Battlefield 2: Euro Force, the European Army joins the Battlefield fray for the first time on PC. Complete with seven new weapons and four new vehicles, the European Army will be sent into battle against MEC and Chinese forces on three brand new maps.

End of last year EA revealed it would be releasing booster packs for DICE's Battlefield 2. Currently 2 packs are scheduled, Euro Force and Armored Fury, each of which will add new maps, weapons and vehicles. The Battlefield 2 expansion pack planned to be launched during spring 2006 is now replaced by two booster packs. The change means slightly lower project revenues during the fourth quarter 2005 than during the third, due to a lower development budget. The anticipation though is that this will be compensated by higher royalty revenues during the first six month 2006.

So far the partial fix list seems to indicate several weapon tweaks, especially making the air assets less powerful, and plugging a few exploits.

A Battlefield 2 community update reveals that EA/DICE are keeping up the BF2 patch works. "We wanted to let you know that we're already hard at work on a post 1.12 update. While we can't go into details about it, yet, rest assured that we're checking the forums, listening to our customer support teams and working hard on the features that YOU'VE asked for. As soon as we can give more concrete details, we will. Just know that we're all 100% into making Battlefield 2 the very best that it can be."

As promised EA/DICE have released the new patch for Battlefield 2, and its Special Forces expansion pack. This update brings your retail game to v1.12 and makes Battlefield 2 compatible with the expansion, as well as adding a few minor fixes.
