A sequel to Assassin's Creed isn't exactly a secret, since Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed
last year that Assassin's Creed 2 is in development. So far, no details have been revealed, apart that it will be set a few hundred years after the original, but all that is about to change as an official announcement is imminent, and Ubisoft has just launched
a teaser Web site showing hints off (
by means of this trailer) some sort of Venetian/da Vinci-related setting.

Sony announced the arrival of some big-name PSP titles in 2009, LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm: Arctic Edge (also coming to PS2), previously only on PS3, will be coming to PSP this year, as well as Assassin's Creed and Rock Band Unplugged.

Ubisoft released its results for the six months ended September 30, 2008, revealing sales for the first six months of 2008-09 were up 31.8%, driven by casual games and its distribution business. In the follow-up conference call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that Assassin's Creed 2 is in development and will be set a few hundred years after the original, most likely the French Revolution in the 1700s.

Ubisoft has quietly pushed back two of its major upcoming PC titles. Assassin's Creed, originally planned for release in March, is
now scheduled for April 8, while the PC edition of Rainbow Six Vegas 2
will come on April 15, a few weeks after its console brethren, which are due next week (
thanks FiringSquad). No particular reasons for the delays were given.

Back in October 2007, a Nintendo release list revealed Ubisoft is working on an NDS version of Assassin's Creed, and while there is yet to be an announcement, the first details are trickling in. Developed by Gameloft, Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles will be set prior to the console versions. You'll be able to pull off acrobatic moves in a fully 3D environment, interrogate informers and pick pocket by using the stylus, master sword fighting, stealth assassinations, combo attacks, and a variety of weapons.

Back in early October, Nintendo's upcoming titles release schedule revealed a previously unannounced NDS version of Assassin's Creed, tentatively scheduled for February 2008. While there are still no details available, UbiSoft has released a box cover to confirm the title and pinned down the release date to Feb. 12, 2008, in North America and Feb. 15 in Europe.

Earlier this year, Pocket Books acquired the rights to publish the novelization of Ubisoft's upcoming action/adventure game Assassin's Creed, but it turns out the deal has been abandoned. Author of the two first novels, Steven Barnes,
revealed Ubisoft wanted to remove religious references and have the books vetted by an expert, which "disenchanted" Pocket Books, and the deal died.
